Just started watching it again. I had to record it earlier coz I had visitors

Dal interviewing Richo: "you started well last week, especially at the start, is that something WE have been working on?"

We know where your heart sits dal. And our heart always has you as one of our favourites too!

I was at the game. First thing, it was incredibly hot. The players did well to cope with that for a start. Carlton pressured in the first quarter and I thought that Brown, Webster and Bailey Rice played it really well. When the game fell apart it was McCartin and Wright who really stood out. Bruce was back to his arrogant best.
I don't understand the Acres knockers. His ability to find a player in space makes him a very special player. Some of his disposals are uncanny.
I also thought that big Billy really battled hard in the ruck.
What I really liked was our tackling pressure and the ability to force turnovers as well as some really slick ball movement down the ground. Considering that Armitage and Ross played only a small part it was great that we dominated around the ground.

I didn't hear that bit but it was pretty obvious during the call that he seem to be reporting just about the Saints, I'm happy with that.

Thought Webster was terrible by foot and has lost a yard in pace.

Stevens great in and under. Same with the Steele.

Liked Long. Is a hard bastard.

Carlisle/Brown combo is huge.

Paddy CHF?
Webster was worse for us on the ground, he was so bad he could have played for Carlton.
Very impressed with Steele , great tackler.
Carlisle and Brown add so much strength to our backline.

We thrash Carlton the same day Lyon takes 8 - 50 , what were the chances of those two things happening together, lol

I forgot to mention Billings. Talk about reliable.
One really freaky thing though ... Bruce got a free kick for being shepherded out of a marking contest. I've never seen that before yet it happens 10 times a game.
I bet it never happens again!

So what will be our starting 22
please change line up to what it think it will be.
I know Hickey or Longer will be a issue

LONGER STEELE BILLINGS

GEARY BROWN ROBERTSON

NEWNES CARLISLE SAVAGE

ROSS STEVEN REIWOLDT

K.STEVENS BRUCE WELLER

MEMBREY McCARTIN GRESHAM

DUNSTAN ACRES SINCLAIR WRIGHT ARMITAGE DEMPSTER WEBSTER

Jeez - this is getting harder and harder (26 into 22 just doesn't work!!!) but here goes. Staying a bit oldschool but on the evidence so far there is serious pressure on a number of players already

Round 1 Melbourne

GEARY BROWN DEMPSTER

NEWNES CARLISLE ROBERTON

ROSS STEVEN REIWOLDT

WRIGHT BRUCE WELLER

MEMBREY McCARTIN BILLINGS

HICKEY ARMITAGE DUNSTAN

INT MONTAGNA STEELE ACRES GILBERT

Long has to earn his stripes. One good half means nothing.

Wright can play at a level for the entire season. Long is nowhere near that, yet.
Why does he have to earn his strips? If he's more talented - possibly shown all pre season, you play him. Just because he's a first year player, dropping someone, whether it's Wright or anyone else it doesn't matter one iota.

Undortunately Acres cemented a spot in Sandy's 22 for round 1. Lonie as well.

I though Webster outperformed Savage & McKenzie & as such is 50/50 for a round 1 start. I think he gets a start against Sydney to secure a round 1 spot. Or blow it.

Steele reminds me so much of Rory Sloane. They both play like maniacs. Close to certain round 1 starter. Stevens 50/50, I'm leaning towards no. I think it's one of Stevens or Steele.

Against Melbourne we'll need to go in tall down back so Brown & obviously Carlisle start.

Hickey vs Longer who knows. It looks as though Longer is currently ahead, perhaps Hickey has had an interrupted pre season & Billy has been off the froffies. I think Longer starts round 1.

Round 1 currently looks like this subject to change after next week:

B: Geary - Brown - Dempster
HB: Webster - Carlisle - Robbo
C: Roo - Dunstan - Billings
R: Longer - Steven - Steele
HF: Joey - Paddy - Mav
F: Gresh - Bruce - Membrey
I: Newnes - Ross - Armo - Gilbert

The champion data/supercoach points, for those who like them.

59 in a half from Long is pretty darn impressive.

Steven 80 , he only played a half didn't he ?
I'm very surprised Webster rated so high, in another quote I said he played so bad he could have played for Carlton, seems I don't know what I'm talking about.
We do have to remember the opposition though , I think most vfl sides would have knocked of them today. Let's see how we go against Sydney.

Gotta love stress free games like that as a supporter!!!! Really happy whenever a developing team like ours puts a team to the sword like we did today, it breeds confidence in the group that we are going places. A few things:

  • Bruce and Paddy moved beautifully today. Bruce is showing signs that he will be another "run defenders off their feet" forward in the Roo mould and will give plenty of space for the more naturally talented Paddy to work. Could be a scary good forward line in the future.
  • Big Jake didn't have much to do but I love the fact we have a very talented big bloke with good skills who can take a grab just sitting behind the play waiting to take advantage of our great pressure. You couldn't pick a more perfect player in the whole league for what we needed and I pinch myself that we have him.
  • Acres getting a bit of stick here but I couldn't care less that he didn't get 30 possessions. What I liked is that he hit targets. The guy is a natural ball magnet and if he can hit targets while getting his usual high amount of possessions he'll be a star of the competition, it's that simple.
  • There's something about Long that I just love watching. The bloke is a natural predator. You don't have to teach this guy or motivate him to go after the opposition, it's second nature. Early days but what a pick-up we may have landed

That was the other thing I loved about the telecast v the commentary was so blissfully one-sided: no interviews with any Blues players or coaches, but interviews with Bob, Armo, etc. The commentary team fawning over us at every point. Seriously, it was almost as one-sided as our intra-club with Tom Morris!

The Blues fans must have been seething. I love that.

There is no uncertainty about Steele's spot. None!

With dal santo on the boundary talking us up at every opportunity. Loved it.
