Game Day JLT 2 Saints v Carlton

To be honest I'm sick of the Bont talk it doesn't bother me with the comparisons. We have what we have and we will keep fighting like we've always done. Dal when interviewing Richo pre game said "We" included in a question as if he was apart of the club at this time. It was touching. Was good to have Sandy Roberts and Dal.

Me either really, I get the feeling after the preseason he's had Billings is going to absolutely tear it apart this year. 30 possessions from a wing in a shortened game on a hot day is huge. Hasn't played a poor game so far in 2017. I thought the stuff he did against port nearly made him our most important player that night. I wouldn't want to give up Billings right at this moment.

Considering Steele played the majority of his TOG in the midfield and as an inside mid and Acres played the majority of his time on the forward line it’s a bit hard to compare them in this game. Also Acres looked like he played a sweeping role at the stoppages whereas Steele played the inside role. Therefore, they played completely different roles and positions so to compare their games is a bit silly to do.

But anyways let have a look at their stats.

Steele played on ball and for his efforts, he got a good amount of possessions but no centre clearance all day and only 1 clearance from a field ball up/stoppage. He got 1 inside 50 and 8 tackles. Did 3 clangers and gave 2 free kicks away and no rebounds 50 from defence and 2 goals.

Acres played the lass 1-2 minute of the first 3 quarter in the middle and the started the 4th in the middle and appeared to only play as a midfielder when Jake Stevens came off for a rest and the rest of the time was basically playing off the half forward. For about the same TOG Acres got 15 possession which is less than Steele’s, but was at 100% efficiency with no clangers. He gave no free kicks away and for the short time, he was on ball he got 2 centre clearances and 3 filed clearances compared to Steele’s 1. Acres put the ball inside 50 three times and had 1 rebound 50 also. His tackle count was lower the Steele’s at 2 but from the games I saw him make a number of tackles that weren’t given to him which shows he was aggressive towards the opposition.

So when you compare them Steele gets lots of ball which he should as he played in the middle for longer but didn’t really do anything speacial with the ball. Acres played forward and a small time in the middle and did more and cleaner with the ball than Steele. Possession are not everything, it’s what you do with the ball when you do get it that counts.

K. Stevens had more disposal than ACRES did also. Looking at his stats he efficiency let him down today. He got 5 clearances and 6 tackles and 1 inside 50 but was messy with the ball at 68 % efficiency.

Yeah I'm not sure why there is such an either or going on. Acres is going to be good and has one of the highest ceilings at the club. Steele and Stevens are huge boosts to our depth and on today I think Steele is a lot more advanced than I had thought he might be. If he can play like that he will play plenty of games in 2017. Koby Stevens is still finding his rhythm at the moment, his form at the Dogs was very good and it almost looks like he's over thinking it at the moment.

Hahaha Carlton board worrying about their 5 or tee players out as if we aren't missing anyone.

Delusional bunch.. same shit is gonna happen to them in season proper, rabble list.
Armo 30% TOG , Ross 40%, Steven 62%, Sandringham could beat those clowns.

Please tell me this post is a joke right?

Steele had game high in tackles.
Steele had game high in contested possessions.
Steele was the only midfielder in the game to kick multiple goals.
Steele had game high Dream Team & Supercoach/Champion Data scores.
Steele had a game high of 4 'free kicks for' which were all from sensational tackles rewarded for HTB.

Jack Steele looked BOG (along with Bruce). He was in everything. Goals, tackles, possessions.

The one thing he is sensational at is allowing a bloke to tackle him to get them out of the contest, then using a quick handball to release a bloke on the outside. Did it a few times last week & this week owned it.

Sure Acres didn't play the same amount of midfield minutes, but why the negative undertones towards Steele's fantastic game?

This is the top 8 during this pre-season, for what it's worth...

Not negative against Steele, did a great job in the middle. I was just stating the difference in their games ( responsibilities and positions) and thier effectiveness with the ball as people on the thread seemed to be comparing their games. Steele is going to be a great additions to the team.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't acres left out last week because of his poor disposal, coaches ask him to work on that he comes back and get 15 possies at 100% now if you are the coaching staff has this kid did exactly what you have asked of him?
Pretty sure the coaches want to see what Steele & Stevens can offer & left Acres out last week as they are kinda playing for the same position & the club already knows what it's gonna get with Acres....

Acres had a run today. Looked sweet AF, as did Steele & Stevens was good without being great.

All in all, a great position for the club to be in at present in the eve of the season. So many options

I wouldn't say he was specifically left out because of his poor disposal. According to Kingsley he was left out because he just didn't quite make the cut for the game and he then said he had some things he needed to work on and when pressed on what they were, kicking/disposal was the one Kingsley mentioned.

On the evidence so far (intra-club game and today) I can see why he was left out last week, as good as it was that his kicking was better today and if R1 was next week I imagine he would be 50/50 at best to play.

Love Nicky dal he loves the saints!

yeah he's doing a bit of radio and he's still very much a Sainter. Shame he wasn't there to get his cousin over to us at draft time.... Bont goes okay.

To be honest I'm sick of the Bont talk it doesn't bother me with the comparisons. We have what we have and we will keep fighting like we've always done. I was wondering if anyone else picked up on the we comment from dal. He loves the club and I believe his sons will be saints fans if he has his way.

He offered to move to help us with our rebuild. If we had asked him to stay with roo and Joey, dal would have.

Fair enough.

The way I see it Jack Steele is your Lenny Hayes/Callan Ward type, while Blake Acres is more of a Mundy/Fyfe hybrid (potentially).

Going forward, both should be best 22 players in their own right. Each have their own skill set & shouldn't really be compared as their roles are different IMHO

Jeez - this is getting harder and harder (26 into 22 just doesn't work!!!) but here goes. Staying a bit oldschool but on the evidence so far there is serious pressure on a number of players already

Round 1 Melbourne

GEARY BROWN DEMPSTER

NEWNES CARLISLE ROBERTON

ROSS STEVEN REIWOLDT

WRIGHT BRUCE WELLER

MEMBREY McCARTIN BILLINGS

HICKEY ARMITAGE DUNSTAN

INT MONTAGNA STEELE ACRES GILBERT
At this point I wouldn't have Acres in the best 22. Possibly Stevens on the bench
