Disappointing the racist port Adelaide supporter at the ground calling our Sudanese WCE supporters
the N word.

So this is what all the fuss was about in the last quarter?

I only had the radio commentary going and they were saying that there was some verbal stoushes going on and that someone, assuming the Port fan, was eventually ejected.

I was there! I was sitting in the box to their right (if facing them). I actually got in the mix when the Sudanese guys came over after the game to the group and I stepped in to try stop other Port degenerate from trying to back his redneck fellow supporters.

Their group was so effin annoying the whole game. They had even been told to cut it out multiple times from the very first quarter by some Port supporter who had some official Port badge on with his Port shirt. He knew them by name.

But when they called the Sudanese guys N***** in the 2nd half and the two groups started yelling at each other he knew it was going on but pretended not to hear it even though he was sitting a few metres away.

Security did sweet F all about that group the whole game. Coupke warnings is all.

Not a wow game but was there abouts. He didn't get too much on ball time which was disappointing. Early days though.

Thing I did notice was how many time Ah chee and Ryan flew for marks and spoiled Darling. Waterman was lost until he started leading hard and long up past the forward 50. The forward line was sloppy, players getting in the way a fair bit.

How Kennedy, Darling and Ryan are going to gel is interesting, Ryan needs to wait for his time to run and jump at it and when to crumb. He will kick more crumbing goals in AFL then he will taking mark of the year.

Hurchings came on in the 2nd half for a lazy 21 possies.

Redden was good and Sheed serviceable.

Cripps played like a man possessed, amazing what you can do when playing fitr and free of injury. Take notice all you Cripps bashing campaigners!!

Vardy looked very good and Lycett solid. We need both to stay fit.
Cripps went hard but so much of his good work is wasted when he just kicks his big up and unders to no one, not a smart player.
Ahchee had a shocker, he had a couple of runs through the middle early on and didn't get near it. His 10m grubber kick was the sort of thing you see in country ressies when a couple of pre game pipes have taken their toll. hopefully he goes better from here on.

Overall:

- Thought we had the better of the game most of the day, and the result was about right
- Ryan needs to relax, but he'll be fine (+ fitness)
- I watched 3 of the 4 games this weekend, and this was easily the closest to round one intensity, which bodes well. Really, Port should have beaten us if you look at their topups + ours
- Really liked the look of Ainsworth, Venables when he has the ball in hand but could find it a bit more
- Our forward entries were haphazard. Seemed like we bombing it in a bit much for mine. Did enjoy the quickish tempo though.
- Seems like maybe we've given up on the corralling a little bit, huzzah!
- For the love of god, Jack, catch the bloody ball.

did you or anyone around you report that person to security or to both clubs?

This group had already been reported a few times before this. But a number of west coast supporters defended the sudanese guys. Security were useless and let the guys go at the end, they had been told what happened and could've stopped them if they wanted.

Yea it was reported the culprit said it as he was leaving and managed to leave before security found him

Nope he said it during the game. It came to a head after the game though when the 4 Sudanese young guys (they looked like teenagers) came over to confront the racists.

I had a talk to the Sudanese guys on the way out and told them I had their back and pointed out how quite a few west coast supporters had their back cos I felt bad for the guys. They were young guys and it is great they have adopted supporting AFL and they did not deserve that.

Thats some shitty work from the security staff.

I can see pros and cons with Watson, he has the speed and evasiveness, but he seems too weak, physically weak. I thought the same thing about him in AFL X game: he just keep getting physically shoved aside almost at will when any hard body contact is put on him, opponents seem to manhandle him rather easily.

Superficially the solution to this problem would seem to be a few pre seasons in the gym, but he doesn't look to have the frame to me that will let him add the size I think he needs (8-10kgs)?

I would be very curious however to see how he goes if he was trialed up on the wing which would allow him to use his natural gifts more.

Thought Gaff looked nice when on ball. He seemed to be sharper in tight and was also able to get a quick disposal away under heat. He's a genuine star but if he can improve his contested game by even 10%, he's gonna be a much more dangerous player and also ease the load on our other on ballers.

I also like Jetta down back.

AFL experience or not, he's 23 (well turning 23) and he still has a frame of an 18 year old player. Don't think he needs to pack on too much but he won't have a successful career as a defender, unless he can add some size.

It was a good hard hit out for both teams, just what we both needed, look forward to our game in the season
Was a really good preseason game- perfect for both sides regardless of the result. Hard contest in tough conditions.. Hope you guys came out without any major injuries.

All the best for the rest of the year.

Missed the game due to work call out.Based on the comments made by posters in this thread this comment seems to be the clincher to me.

Sounds like the younger blokes (Ryan, Ainsworth, Venables, Cole, Waterman, Watson etc) showed glimpses and can only benefit by having more exposure at this level. Would prefer to see them go around again in JLT/pre-season to help their development.

Yeh I reckon our two clubs developing quite the rivalry in recent times

BTW very disappointing to hear about these racist comments at todays game, that is just not on, sadly we still have a few of these types

Watson was horrendous not up to AFL standard.
Bad call, Watson showed plenty of promise.

****ing disgrace if true. Normally i'd say it just takes one campaigner to spoil it for everyone but bloody hell some Port fans are beyond the pale at times.

It might be an unpopular opinion but I just don't think Sheed has what it takes to really go next level. Doesn't have any speed, doesn't seem to have much in the way of mass and his skills can be, at times, iffy. He's showed enough for me to be best 22 just atm, but I don't think he'll ever be a 'take a game by the scruff of the neck' type player in anyway. I know not everyone on a team can be ultra-elite, knocking on the door of a Brownlow year-on-year but I've just never seen that rabid hunger or desire in him enough. Really hope I'm wrong, and if there's any year for him to break out....it's this year
I was hoping that sheed would take a spot as an inside mid now we have some vacancies. He may not be quick but has good hands in close and is a great kick . But he doesnt seem to be inline for a full time gig maybe just rotations on ball then play on a wing the rest of the time
