Joe Korp, the man accused of killing his wife, has been found dead in Melbourne.
Mr Korp's lawyer Peter Ward told AAP his client had "passed away yesterday".
An ambulance attended Mr Korp's Mickleham house in outer Melbourne at about 10.15pm Friday night.
His death came just hours after his wife Maria was cremated on Friday.
Mrs Korp, 50, was found choked and left for dead at Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance on February 13, four days after she disappeared from her Mickleham home.
She died on August 5 after being in a vegetative state in The Alfred hospital for nearly six months.
Mr Korp did not attend Friday's requiem mass after being committed to stand trial for his wife's attempted murder.
Joseph Korp's former lover Tania Herman has already been jailed for nine years after pleading guilty to attempted murder.
Earlier this year, guardianship of Mrs Korp was handed to Public Advocate Julian Gardner, who in July ordered medical staff to cease feeding her through a tube.
The Office of Public Prosecutions was considering upgrading Mr Korp's charge to murder.
"It is a complete tragedy and I especially refer to the young boy (Mr Korp's son Damien) who yesterday had to attend his mother's funeral and then this morning has to learn of his father's passing," Mr Ward said.
"He (Mr Korp) was overwhelmed with grief at his wife's passing and I believe that and the public scrutiny and media hype surrounding the case and having the media camped outside his house for the last seven days, I believe that contributed to his death.
Mr Ward said his client had maintained his innocence "from day one".
"No charges have been proven against him and I think he just couldn't cope with the pressure and in particular the grief."
Mr Ward said he did not know whether Tania Herman had been informed of the death.
