Definitely against their recruitment. We don't have much luck with Irish converts to the game. What about leprechauns?
Marty Clark was our best Irishman and the only one who looked a bit like a leprachaun. Maybe rather than the big blokes we need a short Irishman. Now I am starting to resemble myself.Definitely against their recruitment. We don't have much luck with Irish converts to the game.
Brown paper bags were spread around. Went over their 125k salary cap. What happened? I can't get into the HS site

Reads like the footy club released its statement last week, then the league whacked them a lot harder last night?
Wangaratta has been stripped of its 2022 Ovens and Murray premiership after a stunning call by the league’s board on Monday night.
The Magpies had escaped losing the premiership despite being found guilty of breaking the salary cap by $28,000 last year when it beat Yarrawonga in the grand final by three points.
Instead, AFL Northeast Border fined the club $28,000 and prevented it from earning premiership points from the first two games of the season and lost four player points.
But the failure to take the premiership from Wangaratta has been widely criticised as being “too soft” and an opportunity lost to send a strong message about curbing excessive player payments across the state.
Ovens and Murray is expected to officially confirm the bombshell decision this morning.
The call to strip Wangaratta of the flag comes after a Weekly Times country footy survey found 73 per cent of respondents thought the penalties for breaking the salary cap were too lenient and another 73 per cent thought the salary cap had not successfully reined in player payments since its introduction in the mid-2010s.
Bellarine league club Torquay was also able to keep its 2017 premiership after a confirmed breach.
AFL Victoria has confirmed a Wangaratta player received an extra payment last year that in part pushed the club over the $125,000 salary cap.
The club also failed to name all players who received remuneration for playing last season.
The errors weren’t picked up until the end of the season when Wangaratta was reviewing its financials for the year.
Wangaratta had been under investigation due to “inconsistencies identified in compliance auditing” and when the errors were discovered it self-reported the breach.
Simple explanation really . . .not sure how clubs dont think this won't be found out eventually. The AFL are being cheap, they should up the cap to at least 150k
Reads like it was an error rather than something deliberate. And they self-reported, so it doesn't sound like a case of a club thinking they won't be found out.not sure how clubs dont think this won't be found out eventually. The AFL are being cheap, they should up the cap to at least 150k
Ah fair enough.Reads like it was an error rather than something deliberate. And they self-reported, so it doesn't sound like a case of a club thinking they won't be found out.
Cap limits have nothing to do with the AFL "being cheap" or otherwise. They aren't paying player wages. The limits are set primarily with the goal of clubs being able to fund them. Raising caps across the state by 20%, as you suggest, could have disastrous implications for a lot of clubs that are already struggling.
After destroying our cap with a decade of big money to rehab his broken parts, Ben Reid has gone to Wang and stuffed their cap. He's the cap killer.Reads like it was an error rather than something deliberate. And they self-reported, so it doesn't sound like a case of a club thinking they won't be found out.

League chairman David Sinclair confirmed the board found Wangaratta in breach of league rules by not staying under its $125,000 salary cap.
“Whilst aware of the emotion surrounding last night’s decision, particularly to the players, volunteers and supporters of Wangaratta, the league remains committed to the allowable player payment rules and absolute integrity around this,” he said.
“Where a breach is proven, innocent mistake or otherwise, the league simply cannot award a premiership where sanctions are handed out that bring into focus the integrity of the competition.”
The 2022 premiership won’t officially be recognised by the Ovens and Murray and not awarded to Yarrawonga.
It means Lavington’s 2019 flag win over Wangaratta remains the last official premiership awarded following the 2020 and 2021 seasons wiped out by Covid.

Surely the better run clubs should be rewarded with a competing advantageSimple explanation really . . .
Lower caps force richer, better run clubs back into the pack with the rest.
I feel more for the runners up who were nutted by 3 points by a team getting paid more than 20% overs. It'll never really feel like a premiership for them.Sounds like it was just a simple error, but one that has cost them unfortunately. Gotta feel for the players and volunteers.

There's no team on the book - the runners up aren't being given the premiership. It's being treated like a covid year. Noone has won an official premiership in that league since 2019.Doesn't matter they still experienced the thrill/excitement of the day ....and experienced winning one
It's just not on the books
The team on the book went through the dissapointment of losing
How do people think he looked on the weekend? He's slight and made some mistakes, but as far as suiting the game plan I can see him fitting in pretty seamlessly at AFL level if a spot becomes available.
