Toast Joel Corey

Disposal was a bit rusty (not that it was ever elite) but it was great to see Smithy back in action. We really do need his clearance work in September and he'll be a big plus to the team when we play the Hawks next week.

At his best, is possibly THE BEST last/4 player in the AFL. Always dominates clearances in that crucial last / 4 whe all others are stuffed. Love his marking ability around the ground and in contests. In fact, wouldn't he be ideal to go with Hodge, if he was up to it?

Very happy to have Joel Corey back. Outstanding player, and is only going to improve his game once he improves his match fitness:)

Yep, good call. Thought he was terrific for his first game back, but you could see the rustiness in his disposal. Hopefully he'll be better for it and will improve for the Hawthorn game.

Oh, and he's definitely elite. He's a 2 time Best and Fairest winner, only Ablett can match that.

I've been telling my non GFC following mates we are hard hit by injury over the past few months. I mention Joel Corey is a big out for us and the just shrug their shoulders. They have no idea how good this guy is for us and what a gun he really is - and what a big out he is for us.

As Partridge so clearly points out only Ablett has 2 B & F's in a period of time that has produced our greatest team ever. The club cannot really give a higher honour to a player. It seems many others who do not follow GFC might not realise just how good this guy is for us.

He laid 10 tackles in his comeback game. I hope he's not pushing himself too much. Nevertheless he's an outstanding player. And as mentioned in the OP his self determination showed even in the early stages. This guy is pure class.

Over the past 3 years, it took until the win vs Essendon for anyone to actually notice we had injuries. You see, Hawks have Buddy out and StK have Nick out and the media is all over it. Geelong have 7 all Australians out and no one blinks.

His return against North Melbourne was nothing short of fabulous

I mean, seriously, "fabulous"? Heaps of tackles, worked hard, got a bit of the ball, sure. Great effort. I was impressed. But not "fabulous" given how often he turned it over with dismal disposal.

Don't get me wrong, I love the man and love having him back, but let's not get too carried away with that performance.

Don't shoot the messenger, that was a quote from the Club website!

Yeah I read that;

Meanwhile, doubts hang over the fitness of Joel Corey heading into tomorrow's blockbuster clash against Hawthorn at the MCG.

I did read or hear during the week he pulled up very sore after the game. It didn't sound related to his injury just the fact that it was his first full game for two months.

Edit: Sorry just read this in another article;

"Joel Corey said his body was just aching for about 48 hours (after the game), so he's going to take a delayed recovery process and it'll be really important that he manages his energy this week and usually it's the second week in that they struggle a bit more, so hopefully that's not the case with Joel," Cats coach Mark Thompson said this week.

They said on Triple MMM after the game that JC was out on the ground after the game doing sprint work. What a man leaves no stone unturned to get back and play.

was one ten on after the game or whatever the show is called.

Hogan is just not giving me the vibe

yeah, there have been big wraps on this board for him but he just doesnt do it for me either even after numerous chances. he seems a step slow, or maybe injured.

Replacing Corey with Hogan is like replacing Beer with soft drink. Missed him bad. I think Ablett seems to play better with him in the side for some reason.

The question is do we have someone on our list to replace him long term , Hogan is just not giving me the vibe , maybe Menzel will be the man.

You can't expect Hogan or any kid to replace Corey. I actually thought whereas he has played some shockers this year, Hogan was serviceable yesterday (especially considering he only played half the game).

Let's hope Corey's knee can hold up because we need him for the run home.

Would be recognised as being elite in 15 other teams then :p He gets a bit overshadowed as it stands at the moment
Maybe 14. We're on board.

Hope he gets up for Friday night. Love seeing your midfield at full strength. We obviously don't get many opportunities to see you guys live.
