Norm Smith Medallist
Disposal was a bit rusty (not that it was ever elite) but it was great to see Smithy back in action. We really do need his clearance work in September and he'll be a big plus to the team when we play the Hawks next week.

His return against North Melbourne was nothing short of fabulous, with 27 possessions and a game-high 10 tackles, double the next best effort by a Geelong player.
Yep, good call. Thought he was terrific for his first game back, but you could see the rustiness in his disposal. Hopefully he'll be better for it and will improve for the Hawthorn game.
Oh, and he's definitely elite. He's a 2 time Best and Fairest winner, only Ablett can match that.
He laid 10 tackles in his comeback game. I hope he's not pushing himself too much. Nevertheless he's an outstanding player. And as mentioned in the OP his self determination showed even in the early stages. This guy is pure class.Very happy to have Joel Corey back. Outstanding player, and is only going to improve his game once he improves his match fitness![]()
Over the past 3 years, it took until the win vs Essendon for anyone to actually notice we had injuries. You see, Hawks have Buddy out and StK have Nick out and the media is all over it. Geelong have 7 all Australians out and no one blinks.I've been telling my non GFC following mates we are hard hit by injury over the past few months. I mention Joel Corey is a big out for us and the just shrug their shoulders. They have no idea how good this guy is for us and what a gun he really is - and what a big out he is for us.
As Partridge so clearly points out only Ablett has 2 B & F's in a period of time that has produced our greatest team ever. The club cannot really give a higher honour to a player. It seems many others who do not follow GFC might not realise just how good this guy is for us.
His return against North Melbourne was nothing short of fabulous
Don't shoot the messenger, that was a quote from the Club website!I mean, seriously, "fabulous"? Heaps of tackles, worked hard, got a bit of the ball, sure. Great effort. I was impressed. But not "fabulous" given how often he turned it over with dismal disposal.
Don't get me wrong, I love the man and love having him back, but let's not get too carried away with that performance.

They said on Triple MMM after the game that JC was out on the ground after the game doing sprint work. What a man leaves no stone unturned to get back and play.
Hogan is just not giving me the vibe
Replacing Corey with Hogan is like replacing Beer with soft drink. Missed him bad. I think Ablett seems to play better with him in the side for some reason.
The question is do we have someone on our list to replace him long term , Hogan is just not giving me the vibe , maybe Menzel will be the man.
Maybe 14. We're on board.Would be recognised as being elite in 15 other teams thenHe gets a bit overshadowed as it stands at the moment
