Joel Tippett delisted

I'd also like to say, we need another project ruckman.

He's grown to 198cm, and he's as good as any in the draft IMO, and we can get him with our last pick in the draft.

Probably, but as I said, he looked promising in the NAB Cup.

And in saying that, there was a reason Richmond delisted David Rodan etc etc.

Rodan was a slightly different prospect to Tippett. He was a good player at Richmond, who got injured, and there were doubts he could recover. This isnt that case, the arguement being put forward is that hes supremely talented, and Brisbane for some reason havent realized it.

Lets face it, you dont want him based on talent, you want him because hes brothers with Kurt.

I would be very cautious in picking him up as the lions only have 2 genuine ruckmen in their list (Charman and Leuenberger), while Clarke has stints there at times but is being groomed as a forward. So if Joel was really highly rated/talented i'm sure they would have elevated him considering their desperate need to sure up thier ruck stocks.

Considering they have had him on their list for 2 years now, they couldn't rookie him for another year, and obviously thought this years draft has better ruckmen then what Joel would be.

I for one don't agree with the fact that we should simply take Joel because it may help us keep Kurt. I mean if we take Joel as a rookie this year we can only keep him for 2 years (providing he isn't worth elevating) and since we can't keep him beyond that in 2011 when GC17 comes to play both the boys will leave together. So it really doesn't help our cause at all rookie listing him for the sake of keeping Kurt.

Word is that he will be re-rookied to Brisbane if he survives the draft.

If you want him, you'd probably have to take him in the national draft.

Why don't you guys just elevate him? I mean he has been on your list for 2 years now, i'm sure if the potential was there and you wanted to further develop him you would just elevate him. Why take the risk of hoping he will be there as a rookie list player again?

Seems a really bizarre way of thinking to be honest.

Dunno... we did the same with Anthony Corrie and Pat Garner.

I would have elevated him myself, but its not my call.

I wouldn't get too excited about the prospect of drafting him to keep his brother happy... people on our board were sure we were going to recruit Sam Power for the same reason. It never happened.

I'd almost give him a two year contract to keep Kurt around!

Isn't Kurt contracted for the next 2 seasons anyway?

Unless Joel is going to be a 10 year player for us/has the potential. Then it is highly likely we will delist him and if Kurt really wanted to play with his brother that much he would just leave once his brother was gone (i.e. the situation with the Carr brothers).

Just a question for BrownDog, how good is Joel anyway? He seems to be pretty athletic like Kurt, but how good is he as a ruckman? Like his tap work and just general work around the ground? Cheers.

Better athlete that Kurt, but with a lot less football experience.

Project player under any definition.

I don't know a hell of a lot about Joel beyond what I've heard from some mates from brisbane, but upon reading the thread title, this was the first thing that came to mind.

they have 7 picks in the draft
surely they could have fitted him in the main list?
it can't be that deep can it?

I hope that you guys get him in the draft.
I think that he is desperate to play in the same team as his brother.

Whats cynical about it?

Contextually, your post had negative implications. Yes, of course they've axed him for a reason, but posting that alone seems overly skeptical. There are many possibilities here, several of which shouldn't deter our club one bit.

One explanation is that third year rookie retentions are not lodged until after the national draft and Joel's been on their rookie list for 2. Yes it's risky, but perhaps they have their eye on other ruck prospects and want to see who falls through the draft before retaining him. It's a risk, but it also has its benefits. The fact that Joel is a very inexperienced player whose potential lies in his athleticism would lend to this, as some of Voss' other delistings (ie Begley) might suggest he's after natural footballers.

On top of this, the rest of your posts in this thread have also smacked of cynicism.
