I'm wondering where Craig is going with this because in the limited training he's had Tippett has been purely trained as a forward and he's 200+ too. Could be a very tall setup in the future for the Crows, interesting stuff.

Gee, I feel Meese has been given a rough run on BF. He played a few minutes, got a short term injury and people seem to have written him off cos Griffin slotted a couple goals.

Meesen will be the 2nd ruckman for the AFC by 2008, easily. 2007 will be a tight contest, but Meese will win out.

And on the other side of the spectrum I believe that some Norwood supporters give Meesen too much credit because he plays for Norwood.

BEANPOLE Crows ruckman Jonathon Griffin has set his sights on partnering Ben Hudson in the AFL premiership season opener against Essendon on April 1.

Just days after having the mindset of trying to consolidate his spot in Central District's league team this season, Griffin has raised the bar on his expectations after untimely injuries to ruck sidekicks John Meesen (knee) and Ivan Maric (hip) and an impressive debut in the NAB Cup against Port Adelaide on Friday night.

Griffin kicked goals with his first two kicks against the Power and finished with 10 possessions in 73 minutes of game time against Port's strong ruck pairing of Brendon Lade and Dean Brogan.

Formerly No.4 in the ruck pecking order at Adelaide, Griffin is now No.2 with Meesen and Maric sidelined indefinitely.

"Having played OK, my confidence is growing obviously," the 202cm, 21-year-old said.

"With two blokes out now the challenge for me is to keeping putting that type of performance forward. Hopefully that will lead me into round one."

Griffin said that building a body suited for rucking at the highest level has been difficult due to the fact that he has only recently stopped growing.

“It’s been fairly difficult,” he said. “I came here at about 198cm and 80kg, and at the moment I’m 95kg and 202cm – it’s been pretty hard to put on weight while growing. I guess I’ve stopped growing now, so hopefully I can hit the gym hard and put on those kilos that I need.”

That's a reasonable bit of height and weight.

I wouldnt think so but stranger things have happened. And sometimes you have to go with what you have anyway

Why not ? What hade Modra done pre 1993 ? A little bit of belief and some reasonable pre season form can do wonders.

Which talls would you be omitting from the 22 to accommodate this?

Would we be a running player short to allow for an extra tall? (Though i guess it may not be a huge issue in Round 1 as Essendons strength this season is their options in the big man department up forward and down back IMO).
