exactly. Prior to today’s forced change we hadn’t won for a whole fortnight.
Spot on, and got lucky winning that one against a bottom four team.

Regarding the loose man thing...

What people don't seem to grasp is that by automatically manning up a loose opposition defender you're not only crowding your own forward line, but you're giving the opposition space to lead into in their own. "man him up" is often exactly what the opposition want. While not always the case, it's generally a much better idea to have your own loose man up the field.

A loose man in our forward line apparently kills us, but heaven forbid should we ever send Reid down back... sheer lunacy!

I think it also misunderstands modern footy.

The game is quite fluid, you could be even one minute but loose man the next. The game is all about pressure and momentum, and when the opposition has it you fall back and try and absorb their pressure, when its your turn you even things up and go on the offensive.

You then try and put forward pressure on and that loose man becomes an option for the high ball that gets rushed out of defence to pump it back in and have another go. They won that battle through the second and third quarter but in the end they couldn’t match our run in the last.

That's a bit simplistic, isn't it? The criticism isn't about players losing their man briefly, it's about letting a loose man play in front of Buddy.

It’s more complex than loose man = bad
I didn’t say anything about anyone losing their man briefly.

"You could be even one minute, loose the next" seems very much to be talking about players and their specific match ups.

No. I am saying that the loose man in defence isn’t a pillar that stays there throughout a quarter. It depends on the circumstances of the game, which change throughout a quarter.

It is a method of giving your backline assistance when under siege but also getting into a position to receive the rushed kick through the middle of the ground when a forward press is in place to create another attacking entry.

They can't point to the scoreboard so they have to point at something else this week Mase, cue the loose man in defense.

While I think it was a little slow to happen today, you also have to keep in mind that in the second quarter there were three marks within very easy kicking distance of goal that were not paid or reversed due to verrry soft frees, so while the quarter wasn't ideal, the opportunities were still there through the set up we had. Third quarter was probably when the change should have been made, but as TheMase said, it isn't always just a case of sending a man back there and the problem is solved.

Genius Clarko making a habit of kicking 5 goals in a half of football, still a genius because something something Longmire.
Our cattle is a fair bit better than theirs imo

Inb4 they beat us

Still no semblance of a working forward structure.

Some flukey goals for us and Tom Hawkins deciding to retire just after the game started also papering over some massive cracks.

I tend to agree somewhat. A good final quarter doesnt all of a sudden make him a genius or a good coach. The fact it took him 60 minutes of football to change something was riduculous.

Like ive said. The players certainly make him look better than what he is. Its great that we stormed home but you can't ignore the fact that Longmire was outcoached for a fair chunk of the game.

Ill hold more judgement for when Bud is back. My bet is we go back to bombing it and swinging Rohan forward and back when he is in Panic/defensive mode.

Does he realise that attacking football often wins us more games than it loses. The papering was out covering the cracks late

86 points without our first choice forward line i would say our forward structure worked a treat.

Flukey goals? i dont even know what to say at this point lol.

This team under Horse won against the odds in the hostile environment of the cattery with a bunch of short-arsed players and a lot of inexperience where few teams with their best 22 would have had a chance. In fact, under Horse we've won an enviable percentage of games and played in continuous finals despite the simple fact that the Swans get no better cattle than anyone else to choose from. In reality, the system is designed to punish anyone who consistently makes finals by denying them the best players so you can be sure we're not being dealt a better hand. We're far from favourites of the umpires and we'd never get to play a GF in our home town, let alone our home ground. We've also had bans on trading players, we deal with the homesick factor and we have a far higher cost of living. The only positive difference between us and them is the coach and staff. So by all means bitch about some aspects of the Swans' coaching staff but credit where credit's due. Just because a few of you want a change of coach that badly please don't for a minute think that most of us would want anyone else at the helm. If you hate that badly I suggest we'll all be happier if you change teams. You'll get a new coach and find out what it's like to dwell at the bottom of the ladder.

But hey, haters gonna hate. Some just like to bitch and that's just a bit sad.

Said it before, we could not have had a better coach. Yes he's stubborn with certain things and that's what frustrates some, but to hang him for it is absurd. His record speaks for itself
