That's our new benchmark?
There are 16 games left. Beating the Bulldogs, Giants and Crows is fantasy territory, so I've targeted winning 50%+ of the rest

On the flip side you look at a side like Geelong that have the same personnel as in that prelim but are 5-0.

All builds from confidence in their midfield. Menegola and others just know Selwood, Dangerfield et al will come back at some point in every game. I'm not sure we have that confidence for the moment.

They don't even have an uber Ruck division. Just Zac in trade and Biclavs and co.

But they've topped up their back 6 in trade which we haven't done/been able for cap reasons/were allowed to in trade bans.

They also missed the finals in the interim while we made GFs.

2016/2017 this is now bearing fruit for Geelong.

Twohy. Henderson. These guys are effective spak fillers. We haven't done that since Laidler.

Instead we've played some sacred cows a year or two to long as we were in Premiership contention (not a crazy idea). Goodes, Shaw, Macca, Richards, McGlynn etc.

I think we consciously decided to ride this period out hoping for a couple of extra years in output. We are in the year that hope is quashed.

Result? Membrey, Biggs, Mitchell who probably would have come in handy aren't on the list. And we have excellent kids who are undercooked (ÀA, Jones etc).

We'll come good. And posdibly even next year. But the list will need a good shake.

Roos asked him why Franklin was up the ground so much Longmire said we were struggling to get the ball forward so i put Lance on the ball.

If he's going to do that sometimes then that's fine, but he needs to remember to put someone else forward. I don't mind Buddy coming up the ground occasionally, as long as we maintain a forward structure when he does. Hawthorn did use him in this way sometimes but they had Gunston, Roughead, Bruest etc inside 50. Now a forward line made up of Reid, Papley and a resting ruck may not be world beating, but it just might score more than what we are at the moment.

that's not what he said, he said he played higher up the ground to play as the link player between midfield and forward line, with Rohan and Papley playing deep. Too bad Rohan was ****ing useless and did nothing, so ended up with just Hayward and Papley as our forwards.

So much this.

GWS were actually more dangerous with Cameron coming up the ground this round. But as he drew up the ground they always tried to keep something to pass to.

Essentially the same thing i said we are using him as a linkup which is okay if we have other options upforward but when Rohan went down he should of permanently stayed forward.

I understand why we put Franklin behind the ball and I understand why we play Reid in defence at times. What frustrates the shit out of me is the reason we have to do it... Our midfield is crap.

Wow. Just wow.

I think he meant to say 'everyone' instead of 'Lance'

Where is Stewy Dew in all this? He didn't throw his hat in the ring for other senior coaching jobs when they came up so that has always had me thinking they were looking at another bloodless transition similar to the Roos to Longmire appointment. Maybe if we fall in a heap they might consider bringing it forward in a not so bloodless coup.

I still rate Horse because he's had a bloody good record as a coach even if we maybe should have snagged at least one more premiership in that time. The powers that be at Sydney can't afford for the team to be down for long with GWS the new golden child in a very fickle market. I guess it depends on if we can arrest the decline or keep on plummeting.

When you're going crap you want a magic bullet and that is usually delivered in a coaching change because it's the quickest way to be seen to be taking action. Horse has a lot of credits in the bank but he'll have to turn things around pretty soon. The season's gone so take the opportunity to play some kids and give them license to run and carry and attack. I'd rather lose having a crack than see us just chip around and roll over like we have these first 6 rounds.

Wtf does he play them smalls deep

Wouldn't be surprised if to a degree he's trying to copy the Crows I reckon.

Walker usually plays a fair way up the ground when transitioning from defence, likewise Lynch, and often only a couple of Betts, Cameron, McGovern/Otten are 'deep'. Even Jenkins relies more on sprinting back with play rather than leading up at the ball carrier.

But their small and mid-sized forwards are a cut above ours. And the playing group as a whole runs a lot harder.

Can't believe that people want a coach sacked that has made a prelim for the last 5 years.
People were calling for Clarkson to quit...that's four times premiership winning greatest coach of the modern era 49 year old Alistair Clarkson.

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this odd coincidence yet...

Roos - Missed finals for the first time in his 7th year in 2009.
Longmire - We WILL miss the finals in his 7th year 2017...

Handover (as with Roos) should begin the following year with final handover in 2019 however he is questionably signed on until 2020.

Assuming Dew can wait that long Im worried that, without Rooseys foresight, Horse has bitten off as much as he can chew without consideration for our next phase.
