From recent memory we traded Richards for pick 19= Courtney Dempsey

Solomon I think we traded for pick 42 and 48= Houli and Riemers

Thats just off the top of my head. Worked out quite well.
For some of the players Id like traded, we would receive much higher picks than 37. Im talking about top 25 picks. Good picks that should net you at least a solid player. Recruiters have done well lately IMO and I have faith in Dodora and co. in picking players that will be valuable members for Eessendon in years to come. This is the year to trade aggressively!

I like Dempsey but lets be honest. Richards output at Sydney has far exceeded Dempsey's output at Essendon and Ted is still only 25 with another 5-6 years left in him.

Solly has been super at Fremantle and again his output has exceeded that of Reimers and Houli so far. I am quietly confident that we've got a good one with Reimers and Houli should be a solid AFL player (no superstar though - Heath Scotland type perhaps). Maybe we will finish ahead on that one but the jury is still out.

Two things disturbed me about that article and neither was the premise of what was said.

1) Horsburgh's continually referring to Knight’s as Knightsy. Just doesn't sit right.

2) Horsbugh commenting on football issues, stay out of it.

Don't talk about our game plan and don't compare us to Hawthorn. We're Essendon.
I know that you do not want to be compared with Essendon but isn't this exactly what Bomber's having openly said they wont to use the Hawthorn list as a guide for there own list. If I where you I would not try to back away from that at all because on paper Hawthorn have a fantastic list.

The one issue however which I have with Essendon rebuilding like this is that I feel that you may be loosing a player in JJ who I think should be there for leadership and experience at least with so many young kids coming through. Hawthorn had this in players such as Crawf and Vanders but Bombers are getting rid of theirs which I feel is a wrong move and could end you in Carlton territory... Lots of skill not enough experience.

Isn't it fantastic as a quick comment that Knights is now doing exactly what he said he would not do at the start of the year (which also got him the job) and Hardwick who not only being an Bomber legend said Essendon needed to do this and subsequently got told no in regards to the coaching job. Now isn't that interesting.

Not really

When you have 13 injuries you have to play young kids unless you are suggesting we take the field with 10 players.

The difference is that Richards wanted to leave Essendon - we organised a trade and got the best possible deal - Dempsey - and from the looks of it this kid can play, just needs to get his body right :thumbsu:

Regarding Solly, well how do we know that he would've turned his attitude around whilst still at Essendon? We got picks for him that resulted in Reimers and Houli, who both look like players.

Half those injuries are to the "youth" aren't they? I would've thought Lucas, Fletcher and McVeigh were the only injuries to senior players.

I think Essendon have had a poor run with injuries to their better players but I think it shows more our lack of depth. I don't think that at any one time we've had 13 players missing through injury that would be playing in our best 22. Is that fair?

That's what got reported. If you read all the stuff that I did around that time you'd know that the board stated there was a number of issues (including treatment of indigenous players) on which Knights & Hardwick differed. Bit of a beat up

Didnt Solomon get reported again earlier this season?

Richards wasn't working out at Essendon and wasn't too happy himself about being here. Dempsey has been injured for a majority of his career but if he can overcome that and get on the park, we all no how good of a player he could be. No matter what, Richards was always going to go and we were lucky enough to get a first rounder for him.

That trade has worked out perfectly, Solly is 28 and would be finished at Essendon anyway, he was getting lazy in the final years of his career at the club and his discipline was a problem. We've picked up two very promising youngsters who seem to have a great future ahead of them. One of which is averaging around 20 touches a game in a poor midfield and has earnt a NAB Rising Star nomination.

Both trades, wins for us

Not at the moment.
Maybe in the future.

Any way you look at it, Richards has been better at Sydney than Dempsey has been at Essendon. So far.
Yes he has, but he was going to go anyway. What don't you understand? In the position we were in, we did a great job to pick up a first round pick. Getting Dempsey was better than getting no one

Why would we judge these trades on immediate success?

Nobody would expect to trade established players for draft picks and immediately get a greater output out of them.

Going by your logic, we would instantly win in both cases once Solomon & Richards retire provided we get just one game out of Dempsey & Houli/Reimers afterwards.
