I'm just amazed a dude 'linked' to drugs and with a massive gut was able NOT to have a heart attack while being an AFL Runner!!

I pissed myself every time 'The Dominator' ran onto the field in his fluro gear.

Now that's 2 Johnno's who were a joke in Season 2007.

Cry me a river Justin. I am sure most people read about this on news.com.au or in a paper this morning. Its not just like one of those "a player from hawthorn" rumour's that get around, it stated his name.

Tell me exactly why copying what is written in a news article is not allowed? I thought this forum was to discuss football and football related media matters?

Johnston at our club was gonna end in tears one way or the other.
He didn't belong there.
Anyone that thinks having Carlton people at our club is good has got rocks in their head.
Glad he's gone :thumbsu:

Couldn't agree more froars, it was embarrassing.

From some things I've heard he was well liked and did add something, but surely a runner has to be able to run, not waddle, and there must be dozens of others able to add similar knowledge of the game without the flawed character of Johnston attached.

Source Herald-Sun website 9/2/08EXCLUSIVE: FOOTBALL great Wayne Johnston has cut ties with Richmond as he has been allegedly linked to a drug investigation.
It is alleged that damaging images of Johnston, the Tigers' runner, were uncovered after detectives raided a suspected South Melbourne drug dealer late last year.
Officers seized a computer which, when checked, revealed images of Johnston.
The Herald Sun believes the images show Johnston, 50, and lines of a white powder.
Johnston's lawyer, George Defteros, told the Herald Sun his client knew nothing of the alleged images.
"He is not aware of any alleged photographs. Nor has he been spoken to by any police," Mr Defteros said.
"If there are any allegations to be made against him then they should be put in the proper manner."
It is believed Johnston and the Tigers agreed to cut ties this week.
Mr Defteros denied the former Carlton champion and four-time premiership player had been sacked.
"He has left the Richmond Football Club on good terms, on his own accord, for business and personal reasons," he said.
Police yesterday refused to confirm Johnston's image had been found, only saying that a computer was seized and a man arrested when drug taskforce officers searched a South Melbourne address.
The suspected dealer is believed to be well-known to police.
A small amount of white powder was seized during the swoop on the York St house.
Charges have not been laid against the target of the South Melbourne raid.
Richmond officials last night confirmed Johnston had left the club after being a runner for the past two seasons.
"Wayne Johnson advised the club some time ago that he would not be returning as a runner for the 2008 season," a club statement said.
"Wayne was previously employed on a part-time basis for approximately three hours a week."
Johnston was a popular figure at Tigerland and enjoyed strong support from the players and coaching staff.
Last week, he admitted to having been at a party at the home of Wayne Carey, which ended with the former Kangaroo great being subdued with capsicum spray by police.
A small amount of a white powder found at Carey's apartment is being analysed by forensic experts to see if it is an illicit drug.
Johnston and his wife, former Stingers actor Kate Kendall, had left the party before Carey's arrest.
Johnston, who starred in Carlton's premiership teams of the 1970s and '80s, was a friend of slain underworld stepbrothers Jason and Mark Moran.
Nicknamed The Dominator, he made headlines after retiring from football by admitting an addiction to the pain-killing drug pethidine.
Too much information , hogg wash

He'll be suing the coppers.

used to get a laugh watching him waddle around the field, not so much glad to see the back of him as keen to get a runner who actually can live up to the title:cool:

A good mate of the Moran's who just happened to be at Carey's place for a tupperware party and whose lawyer, a known gangland defence brief, starts making statements in the media the day after Carey goes down and before anyone accused Johnston of anything.......nah purely circumstancial.

I am not a fan of all this cross pollenation, cant trust the mongrels. Get a Tiger in the flouro!

I agree with you TT, I think it was frought with danger right from the very start.

We have got plenty of ex players who would be great runners- Ray Hall, Darren Gasper, Clinton King. The list goes on:D

this was the oldest news available, shame there wasn't a full on stingers episode of him and his missus as the irony would have been made

I hate all these doo-gooders on here crucifying a bloke that has not been convicted of anything. Like none of you soap dodgers have ever done anything wrong before...

Johnstone apparently added some value in his role as runner and did the respectful thing and not drag our brand through the mud and moved on - no doubt by mutual consent, not denying that.

But how many of you blokes would do the same if "rumours" going around at your work had you apparently/allegedly in the vacinity of pot, coke, etc, etc?

Answer... none. I love how we all become mercenaries around here.

The club has players as young as 17 on the list and if you want to work with minors, your criminal record, conduct and lifestyle is taken into account. In that position, people have to step down until and unless they can clear their name.

Johnston has a history of past drug use and I'm sure we told him in no uncertain terms when we employed him that we were prepared to overlook his past (which was very generous IMO) as long as he was out of that scene and wasn't using again.

If he was innocent and still wanted the job, then I'm sure the club would have stuck by him and given him the chance to clear his name by taking a test. While none of us know the full circumstances, it seems obvious that he was using again, and therefore, can't clear his name.

Pretty simple I would have thought.

Don't care what the bloke does in his personal time, but, he's a Blue. Shouldn't ever have been near our club in the first place. Akin to having that useless prick Walls near our club. Glad he's fharked off.

Agree with most of your post mate, haven't we all done some things we are not proud of:D

But it was a mistake to bring this serial trouble seeker into the club. Lets not forget this bloke was up to the same sort of shit 30 yrs ago - some people never change.

I would hope that in 30 yrs time we have given up on cheating on our wives and snorting cocaine of the vulva of work colleagues (then again....):D

And another thing, you are the only soap dodger posting on this forum I believe.

Anyway piss the Carlton scum off, maybe we would have the 82 flag as well if he hadn't dominated while playing on uppers!!!

A serial trouble maker that has never been convicted of anything, but in his role as a runner, from all reports he was excellent. Seems like you and the rest of your mates on here are the jury.

On departing Punt Road, he could easily have been a pest and played the 'you havent proven anything' card, but didnt. Plenty of his mates probably wouldnt have and then we end up looking a right royal pack of James Blunts. Props to him for going quietly.

We all have a history Harry, some people are still learning, but l hope that we all get the chance to put things right. ;)

And on the issue of bringing back former opposition players... grow up. I want the best people possible in every on-field and off-field position, regardless of who they played for. I hate(d) Jade Rawlings and David King as players, but if they're the best people for Richmond, then who are we to argue.

Grow up?????

About the running role, it is hardly the type of job that is easy to stuff up. And who was reporting back to us about his magnificent work as a runner? G. miller, thats who.

I agree with taking past players of other clubs, just not second class citizen scumbags who are always gonna crap in your face because they have known no other way for their whole lives. If they can improve the club, bring them on but I am confused as to where he has actually imroved the club.
