whats every1's thoughts on him, he has just made a gr8 ton, but even b4 this week i have seen him as a good prospect
he is captain for this game with elliott and harvey in the same side, so he's doing things right.
should he have been in the aust a team, even the team for the 1 dayers
first class batting ave of 37.93, bowling ave 29.24
odd batting ave 18.53, bowling 25.66

with his 170 no his batting ave 43.25

so some good stats, what are people thoughts

Neither Elliott or Harvey are leaders, so it doesn't really tell me much.

Moss should have been in the Australia A one-day side, but given they've gone for under 25's , we can't take his non-selection to heart.

but elliott and harv have played for australia, but i do see ur point
but were is he and getting a game for the aussies/ aust a can he play for australia?

I'd say his only worry would be his age, I think he is already 28. But he certainly does have plenty of runs (and wickets) on the board. There seems to be a few all rounders ahead of him atm, so he's going to have to rip it up if he is to play for Australia. I like him a lot as a cricketer, but I don't think he will get to play for Australia unfortunately.

He's in pretty good form at the moment...

Hasn't really done it over an extended period, and I'd be interested to see how many of his really good performances have come against full-strength sides instead of depleted units.

Still, wouldn't rule out higher honours, given the lack of genuine all-rounders right now. There's not many blokes who are probably equally good at each facet, the way Simon O'Donnell or Brad McNamara were.

While Gilchrist is the all-rounder, there might not be a need to play a bat/bowl all-rounder - it might suffice to play 6 batsmen, 5 bowlers, some of whom can bat a bit (Warne, Lee, Noffke, Bichel for instance). Then again, the lack of depth and quality in world cricket, means Australia can get away with four bowlers the rest of the time and pick up the slack with part timers (Katich, S.Waugh, Lehmann, etc).

Brad Hogg got games for Australia because he was in the right place at the right time, I'd say Jon Moss is therefore a realistic chance in one-dayers at least, especially given the inconsistency of Symonds, Harvey and Hogg and the fact the Shane Watson has to earn his spot back.

Pretty harsh.

If he'd been playing first class cricket for 6-7 years and only finally made an impact, it'd be a fair comment, however Moss didn't get a game until 2001.

In his 3 years he hasn't put a foot wrong, averaging 43 with the bat, and 30 with the ball.

He may not have the quality to make it, but he has been extremely solid since being given a chance.

true he hasn't put a foot wrong and as i said in my first post 2 be named captain for what ever reason means he doing somthing right. and the fact he has just scored 172 shows his talent, but still a long way to go

I like Moss, Although I think there is absolutely no chance he will ever play for Australia (unless perhaps if he moves back to his home state!)

Surely Jon Moss is not as good as Dominic Thornely?

I hate to harp on about NSW bia's however it is really hard to explain the non-selection of so many high performing players over NSW players of lesser ilk.

Same opinion as Corporal, I like Moss, he is a good player, good state cricketer, but, you only have to watch him play to see that he is just not an international cricketer. Also, he is probably leaving his run a bit late. However, being a Victorian, I wish him, Brad Hodge, Cameron White and Co. all the best and hope they bring home the Pura Cup for us for the first time since the SA regime won it for us in 91.

They have probably pencilled in this Jacques guy as future opener after his swashbuckling 85 yesterday.
The bias is real. How Richard Chee Quee missed Australian selection is a mystery.

I'm pretty sure Jaques is a Pom.

Don't think these two should be mentioned in the same sentence, somehow!

Only the way they were selected with their batting and bowling being roughly equal facets... not like Harvey who is mainly a bowler these days, Symonds, Katich and S.Waugh who are predominanty batsmen, and Brad Hogg who is no slouch hand with a tray of gatorade.

Jaques might have qualified for Northamptonshire as an Englishman (not exactly sure how) rather than an international player, but he's an Aussie.

He was born in Wollongong and has been playing in Sydney first grade for some time now.

Jacques has dual citizenship I think.

There was a bit of a fuss over him just recently. Basically, because he started playing first class cricket for NSW the powers that be decided that if he was to go back to his county side next year he would be classed as an International player. County side got ****ed and are taking it court. All very strange, I would have thought it would work the same as soccer i.e. Kewell not being classed as an non eu player.

Ok, gotcha. Point taken. I thought you were referring to comparable talent levels!

That being said, if Shane Watson can get back to bowling consistently, and develop a mean slower ball, he could be one of these 50/50 type players, IMO.
