I get this feeling brown absolutely hates the collingwood football club. Maybe that has something to do with the grand finals that brisbane beat us in but.......

did anyone else notice when brown was captain of victoria he clapped every player onto the ground except for shaw, pendlebury and fraser when read out??
He seemed to be close to all the vic boys and it was like the collingwood boys were on the outter!

is this true or are you just reading too much into it???

if he seriously clapped for EVERYONE except the three pieboys thats dissappointing

I'd love Brown. The problem is, however, that what we give up to get him may stuff us up way too much. Let's be honest, we're not going to get a freebie like a high draft pick to trade for him unless we tank. Which we are not going to do.

Like pops I'd rather trade a fair bit less for a player like Kerr who to our side would perhaps mean just as much as Brown.
Just watched the VFL game and I didn't see any midfield stars in the making - Cook, Iles, Stanley servicable VFL players and *might* improve a lot but no indication yet. Best hopes are probably Mccarthy, Barham and Dick in current VFL crop. Egan? - an enigma but doesn't look too likely at present. Toovey - possible but more likely as a tagger although that would fill a big need also. WE are suffering from the loss of Brodie and Lonie to injury IMO. OTOH there are some pretty good forward prospects there though none of them are guaranteed either - Jack, Dawes, Mcgaf. So yeah I'd say midfiend is a higher priority at present - that was a typo but actually a midfiend like Kerr is what we need. Can't see us getting him though, so not sure where one or two will come from in hte shortterm, except of course Cousins who could make an enormous diff next year if we get him!

Collingwood to chase Jonathan Brown -According to Andrew Maher -SEN

Was listening to SEN yesterday morning and Andrew Maher dropped a bombshell. The pies are going to go after Jonathan Brown with a vengance at season's end.
The source of this rumour Maher stated, was a close friend of his who is meant to be spot on the rumour mill. The story goes that Maher was questioning his friend saying that he was worried about the Pies trying to approach Fevola, but the friend reassured him that the Pies number 1 target at trade time is Jonathan Brown. The rumour goes that the pies are so desperate to sign a big game player, and the fact of Rocca's constant injuries,Rusling's injuries and unpredictabilty, also the fact that Reid and Dawes are still possibly 2-3 year's way from becoming prominent players,Brown is a high priority on the Pies shopping list.
Rumour goes the pies are willing to offer Brown a five year deal.
Personally although it would be good have Brown on the forward line with
Travis Cloke i ,won't be offering a five year deal, three would be the max,but if this rumour is correct it may take 5 years to make Brown sway towards the pies.

Re: Collingwood to chase Jonathan Brown -According to Andrew Maher -SEN

I think J.Brown would fit very nicely into the Collingwood side - possibly to replace Rocca. Dont howl me down for this but i think Rocca is becoming a liability to the pies like Whitnall was to the blues in the end - Rocca not as bad though.

J.Brown would do to your forward line what Judd has done to our mids. Give them the leadership and confidence they need. Imagine young reid and cloke(already a gun) dawes learning from Browny. Browny would take the focus away from cloke (like Judd has done with murph). Your gun small forwards would cash in on him bringing the ball to ground.

I would love him at Carlton at CHF. And if we had to give him a 5 year contract i would and you should if thats what it takes to get the deal done. Last couple of years he would be on the veterans list anyway.

Re: Collingwood to chase Jonathan Brown -According to Andrew Maher -SEN

Didn't someone else come out with this last week? and the week before? and probably the one before that???

I remember someone saying that Judd will come to Collingwood..... & he isn't here......:cool:

If someone told me something like that, as if the first thing I would do is ring up a radio station......

Re: Collingwood to chase Jonathan Brown -According to Andrew Maher -SEN

It isn't going to happen. Browny won't be playing anywhere but Brisbane next season, he loves the club. I sincerely doubt he would want to play for Collingwood anyway. I would be very happy to be proven wrong though.

Re: Collingwood to chase Jonathan Brown -According to Andrew Maher -SEN

We all know this happens every year. It get so tiresome. Most of this is driven by player managers, and then jumped on by reporters, especially those of the SEN variety.

As if Andrew Maher would know. The only reason he is bringing it up in the first place is so he can have another crack at Collingwood when Brown inevitably signs with Brisbane. Remember when Judd signed with Carlton and he launched into this diatribe on air about how Collingwood try and recruit everyone but their record in luring a big name to the club was "Sheizen" (He obviously thinks he's Rex Hunt or something.) He also said we had done "bugger all" when it comes to recruiting. Really intelligent stuff, hey?

So he's decided to fan the flames by labelling the "Collingwood are interested in Brown" rumour as "DEFINITE!!!". Just so he can have more fun when it doesn't happen. Notice how he slipped a little Fevola to Collingwood scenario in there as well?

Listen Maher, your club can gloat all you want about how great you've become at luring players to Carlton. Lord knows you need something from the last six years to hang your hat on. Just leave us out of it. While you're preparing your massive deal to land Kerr or Brown, we've got another finals series to get ready for.

Re: Collingwood to chase Jonathan Brown -According to Andrew Maher -SEN

Didn't we throw like 6mill at him last time he was out of contract and he didn't budge.

These rumours make for entertaining reading but can't see him at Collingwood, or anywhere other than Brisbane to be honest

APPLAUSE !!!!!!!!!!
Yes you should ring and tell him.that would be funny.
I suppose in this day and age guys,is that MONEY talks, even Brown said on the footy show a while ago that although he wants to stay with the lions,he has to consider big offers, when it comes to his future.

Re: Collingwood to chase Jonathan Brown -According to Andrew Maher -SEN

If by any chance it is true, which it probably isn't, Maher just made sure he never gets information from that source again.

Re: Collingwood to chase Jonathan Brown -According to Andrew Maher -SEN

Andrew Maher gets a lot wrong, I wouldn't be listening to anything he says.

Love it! Let's get a Midfiend! That's exactly what we need.:thumbsu:
Actually, let's get several of them.

Re: Collingwood to chase Jonathan Brown -According to Andrew Maher -SEN

He HATES Collingwood and he wasnt interested in us last time so ____ him this time would much rather Pavlich atleast you know he will be still playing 5 years time great athlete

Re: Collingwood to chase Jonathan Brown -According to Andrew Maher -SEN

Isn't he currently in the process of building his dream house in Brisbane?

Re: Collingwood to chase Jonathan Brown -According to Andrew Maher -SEN

The only way I can see him getting to Collingwood is by entering the PSD. Then say he only wants to go to a Victorian club and put a price tag of a $5M, 5 year contract. The only thing Collingwood will have to be careful of is Victorian clubs such as Melbourne, Essendon and Richmond getting a pick before them. Collingwood just don't have enough to give Brisbane in a trade.

Re: Collingwood to chase Jonathan Brown -According to Andrew Maher -SEN

Andrew Maher is correct in saying that Collingwood are eager to land the big fish because we have been unable to do so. That is no secret and Eddie is keen as mustard to secure a big name player.

Make no mistake we will approach and make a play for Brown. We would be stupid not to. However, having said that I still think he will remain in Brisbane.

Then again, Judd came out many times and said he was going to stay at WCE and look what happened there.

Watch this space.
