Tough game for all and sundry and BHH had very few winners, perhaps only Mirra.
Will get 1 more year on the list, just due to lack of anything else coming through. No point delisting him this year and replacing him with pick 149 from the draft
Good question.
Reports I've read run the gamut from 'did lots of good things' to 'largely anonymous'
I actually think JOR is a blank canvas onto which people project their own expectations...

I think he's got some really good potential. Did a lot of things that didn't quite come off - where teammates weren't quite expecting the ball so quickly or he hand-balled ahead of a player that slowed down instead of speeding up.16 disposals (8k, 8h), 6 tackles.

There's something there that if it clicks (big if) it'll be pretty awesome. Needs fitness, game time and good players around him for it to all click though I think.

His role would be more Whitfield-Lite...Really don't know what his best would add to the team, especially as were re-tooling with young talent or elite FA that can be clear winners in their position. He aint becoming Rockliffe that's for sure.
He obviously has talent, just needs to get his body right and have a good run at it.
That's a damn good summary.I've worked out why I don't like him and others do.
I look at his play and think ceiling, he's busting his hump and that's his output.....and don't see what he pushes through to go next level.
Others seem to think what they're watching is his floor, and 'when it clicks' he can elevate his game significantly...
Because surely what he does currently doesn't get him above 20th -24th on the list, right?
I reckon that's what happened when he got drafted too.
Recruitment fellas judged what he did consistently at junior level as his floor and thought he'd steadily work upwards with time in a professional club.
When watching the sum of his games, I believe you're watching his absolute top end efforts and some days that will result in better disposal efficiency and some days worse. But he's not finding a gear out of no-where, or a leap to become a dangerous forward, or a long kick to be a link player that breaks lines, or a ferocious out of no-where tackler that turns teams over in a scoring position for the team, or a ball magnet, or magnificent hands in close to create overlap opportunities.....
Really don't know what his best would add to the team, especially as were re-tooling with young talent or elite FA that can be clear winners in their position. He aint becoming Rockliffe that's for sure.
Actually...Draft pick costs us $200k over the next 2 years. I assume he costs double that. So it comes down to whether we have the space for him.
So it could well be the announcement on him comes after we finalise any big fish poaching.
Actually...
Next year minimum base for 3rd year players and up is $105k + match payments, it stays the same for 2019
Draft picks next year will be in the 80-95k range, second year players will be 85-130k range, the year after is also the same
so between Jono and a draft pick you could save a little next year but end up paying more for the draft pick the year after if they play enough games (second year base is impacted by number of games played in draft year)
My point was that Jono does not have to cost us double what a draft pick would. We already have a bunch of kids fighting for a few spots so its unlikely a draft pick will play more than a couple of games in their first year.
He's certainly not the same as Sicily, Hardwick, Howe and Burton who have shown signs since day one. But not everyone is going to be top tier.In the years between 1991 and 2004 I used to breathe hope into our list. I have lived throught the 1980's.... so when players like Bret Johnson, S Cox, Lonie, Hazel, Bowyer, came along I believed they could AT THEIR BEST take us there. Even players like Rawlings, Thompson, et el, I hoped for the same.
But when the 2001-2004 draft classes came along, there was a difference. Everyone knew what they could achieve.
I feel, following the last 10 years, that I am back in the hope period. It can be a quicksand.
Therefore, a player like O'Rouke... if he stays then I would think Clarko and GW see something in him that I don't.
If he goes, then I will think.... HFC will not fool themselves about where we are at, and where we need to be.
Personally, i think JOR will help us next year. But I don't think he will help us get where we need to go.
How many games have you watched him play at Box Hill?Does he though? We haven't actually seen it yet.
Injury has prevented him from reaching his ceiling
