I just replayed the "white shouldn't bend down to mark the ball" incident on the weekend. Dunstall's argument appears rational to me now. I would suggest that all Collingwood players be required to lie on the ground at the start of games so that opposition players can kick their heads in. The Collingwood players should then be suspended for endangering the feet of an opposition player...
Pleasingly, umpires representative Hayden Kennedy and Brenton Sanderson both publicly stated (essentially) that Dunstall didn't have any idea what he was talking about when discussing it here: http://www.afl.com.au/video/2015-05-26/experts-leading-fans-astray

Well that was gladdening.

They were bang on... White has every right to dive for a mark without being hit in the head by a bloke who has no intention of marking the footy. Free kick, Dunstall's a twit and Brown knew better but chose to wee in his undies a little bit instead of disagreeing.

Good on you Sando!

I don't have Foxtel and the more I hear about the commentators the more I am glad about it. My brothers - who do watch Fox Footy, have complained for years about what a bunch of b1asses @ssholes they are, especially Dunstall.

I suspect it's a symptom of getting a bit older but I've found for years now I simply can't listen to anything except the ABC radio call. At least that crew generally try to be balanced and call the game as professionally as they can. Even Whately's goal heralding hyperbole is light years away from the juvenile outpourings of commercial radio which is just built around stupid overpaid egomaniacs who spend so much time trying to be funny, cool and blokey they forget how to call the game. They drive me f ..... insane, especially if the Pies are playing.

During the Gold Coast game, Dunstall brought up that Oxley knows how to find the ball, as he had 13 touches in the third quarter, and then good ol' Brownie jumps in with "yeah, he's a talent - kicking would be the one area of his game he'd need to improve".

This guy gets paid to say that the best kick on our list needs to improve his kicking.

The best is how j.brown says kicking. Kicken.

I'm staggered that even the host of that segment agreed with Dunstall. Anyone who thinks that doesn't warrant a free kick either grew up watching quoits or should be fired from a cannon directly into the Sun.

I don't have anything in particular against quoits fans, but if a football fan came to that conclusion of their own accord...

I can understand Gold Coast fans arguing against it due to their understandable bias. But how anyone else, especially 'experts', argue it's not a free. Just thinking about Dunstall's rant is making me angry. I can't believe there are people in the media who agree with him.
