Josh Carr

As I posted on the Port board - where do we sign? Sounds like a good trade if Josh in fact does want out.

We must be going close to a record number of players who are walking out at the end of the year - you could only wonder what the AFL would do if they all did leave.

Interesting hypothetical. What would happen if more players left than you have draft picks?

I don't think there is any limit on the number of draft picks you can have, but I'm not sure we'd be picking up anything worthwhile when we are still going at 60+ and all the other clubs have finished. Going on all the 'rumours' so far, I think these are the ones we can expect to be without

Carr - back to Port
Peake - doesn't want to play football
Crowley - wants out
Mundy - wants to go home
Tarrant - wants to go home/doesn't want to play football
Murphy - wants to go home
Bell - wants to live in Gero or some other stupid reasons
Warnock - wants to go home
Duffield - wants to be traded

so that's nine before we even look at retirements or delisting.

Where are you getting these from, I haven't seen anything mentioned that they want out ?

Bell has just moved back for Family reasons and Crowls was given a second chance by Freo so I would have thought he's pretty loyal. Tazza is just getting himself back to some reasonable form.

Both Carr and Crowls wont go, we need a stopper. Carr would go before Crowls whose starting to really develop.

There was a thread early in the year where someone 'in the know' had heard that Crowley wanted out. Tarrant I thought was pretty obvious - think back to early in the year Shark, his name was on everyone's lips, his body language was poor, he wanted to go back to Melbourne, he was even retiring at one point. Bell has also been in the paper since the end of last year.

ETA : Obviously, most of these stories are simply that, but if we were to believe all those who know what's going on, this is apparently what we could be facing. This whole thread is based speculation.

You just keep going until your list is full. You could of course wait for the PSD too, so if you had 12 spots free, you could take 9 in the national draft and then 3 in the PSD.

Cheers. Wasn't sure how that worked. I thought there were x amount of rounds of the draft and that's it, the passing in the final rounds of the draft was due to clubs having a full list by this stage of selecting.

Perhaps Hardie's radical delisting if feasible. Throw out the high priced players who haven't lived up to expectations, pick up a few mid-late 20's players who are burning it up in the WAFL/SANFL a shot (but pick them in the last rounds of the draft). West Coast had the right idea with Bad Smith until his knee wouldn't play ball and I believe the Troy Wilson experiment was succesful.

Getting rid of the high paid ones is pointless if they are still contracted. You still have to pay them and it still comes out of your salary cap. You also have to remember that you must pay a minimum amount of the cap as well (92.5% I think?) I'd be interested to know who this mid-late 20's guys are burning it up in the WAFL or SANFL? I think you will find the majority that do have already had their chance and shown that they are just not able to take the next step. If we are going to completely cull the list I'd rather see us fill up with kids than has-beens.

And if the number is higher?

What would happen after the 5th round would be that all our picks would be together.

ie
6th round, selection 74, Fremantle select player ......
7th round, selection 75, Fremantle select player .......
8th round, selection 76, Fremantle select player .......
etc
etc
