Player Watch Josh Daicos

Yep, remember it very fondly. And the absolute terror on the face of his opponent when the ball came near.:p
I think Josh is starting to slowly instill a bit of fear in his opponents too. Was reading a Blues post over on their forum and they were talking about how some Blues players seemed unwilling to over-commit on Daicos for fear of him weaving in and out and using by foot

Peter kicked 13 goals against the Bears in 1991. I can remember the defeated look on Gastev's face. His worst nightmare scenario as a full back played out in real life.

Josh is a very different guy to Nick. It might be easier for Nick to carve his own niche knowing that his brother has but we should be realistic and patient just the same. Nick's potential has been on display but there are never any guarantees.

I’ve seen young Nick, with his dad at VFL games watching Josh. On one memorable occasion he took to the field at halftime for kick to kick with some mates. I think he would have been about 14. His mates were challenging him to kick goals, from all points within 50m. My husband and I watched, entranced (at least I was entranced). He kicked 10 or 12 goals just for fun. No pressure of course, but still put on a display of uncanny goal sense.

The most pleasing part of this year has been Daicos' development. He is a real bonus as I never thought he'd be anything more than an ok player. I'm glad we have been patient with him and let his body develop, and he was very raw when he was selected.

apparently after daicos kicked that goal where he was tackled and nearly pinned to the ground, he apologised to gastev

The average AFL career is 3-4 years genius, kids who struggle in their first 3 years often find their careers at the crossroads. Some kick on, and many others don't. Lucky for us Josh has improved huge amounts because he wasn't that flash last year.

Only people who couldn’t see his potential were writing him off - there were plenty of glimpses of how good he would become once he added some bulk.
His kicking and decision making for example were always elite.

What is exciting is that feeling of anticipation that something positive is going to happen, whenever he has the ball - just like Pendles and Sidey.

I think you’ll find that he’s always worked hard on the track. I distinctly remember track watchers talking up his efforts consistently over the 2019 preseason. He mentioned in an interview that he’d had respiratory/asthma issues that had been holding him back and he’d only just recently got on top of them. Given he chose not to take his Dad’s number when it was offered to him, he doesn’t strike me as someone who ever thought it was just going to happen for him because of his name....

Yep, this. I had him pegged for a breakout year during the 2019 preseason then he copped an injury in a practice match and the wheels fell off a bit. Glad he’s taken the next step this year.

Watching his old man turn it on at Victoria Park was just magnificent - the atmosphere he created was amazing to be a part of.

Watching his old man turn it on at any ground was magnificent.

That is my all time favorite daicos goal - dragged to the ground away from goal on the boundary and still nonchalantly putting it through - stunning.

Well I'll defer to the experts, but a club like Collingwood with literally access to the best experts and treatments in the world taking 3 entire years to find a solution seems a very very long time.

Can't you use trial and error and find the best solution after a year?

I suggest you just leave it to the experts and stop making comments on something you know nothing about.

Unless like Trump you have a Covid cure.

That one is definitely directed at Jack Silvagni, lol.
The rules have changed since impersonating an octopus was revered. Peter Daicos and Peter Moore were actually talented at, you know... football. Rowdy went well too.

Oh man, he has come along in leaps and bounds in this year, a joy to watch. Superb skills, evasive through traffic, and has built an engine that sees him get all around the park. Fab.

Is it true that he was having some asthma issues, but has put the worst of them behind him which has helped his current blossoming?

Correct. He mentioned it in a recent interview. After the sydney game I believe. Said he battled it in his junior days and early days at the club, so he found it hard to keep his fitness as he struggled with his development. But has managed to keep on top of it as of late.
