PIES CLOSING IN ON DAICOS DEAL

Contract talks have resumed with excellent progress for Josh Daicos for a two-year deal that will see him given a hefty pay-rise if he can hit certain incentives.

Daicos has been one of the finds of the AFL season, going from playing five games last year to seamlessly slot into Steele Sidebottom’s wing position in 17 games leading into Saturday’s final against Geelong.

Those talks are now ticking along after the parties were at one stage keen to see what the CBA looked like next year before progressing on a new deal.

Many players of his ilk are handed contracts with a base element and then incentives but given his slashing form he will back himself to continue hitting those heights next year to earn that big pay rise, freeing up Sidebottom to continue playing all over the ground.

It makes the speculation about salary caps very tough. None of us know how much of a contract is based on incentives and targets. Its easy to say so and so is on $600K, but the reality might be quite different.

Daicos wins GOTY but also apparently had hip surgery yesterday? WTF, what’s with the lack of transparency with the club? Yikes.
The club is under no obligation to shout from the rooftops every time a player has minor post season surgery....

No such thing as minor surgery at Collingwood, after the lack of transparency with our injuries over the last few years you’d think a casual heads up would be a good idea.

Can you believe Peter only won GOTY once?

Josh has equaled him already!

Yeah that surprises me. I assume it was that one at Vic Park v Richmond they just showed on the Brownlow.

Two of his other specials were in finals (WC QF & Ess GF 1990) & obviously didn’t count. Not sure how his one v Bears & Gastev at Carrara didn’t win it though.

Try think of it as a positive. Obviously had some sort of niggle and still had a breakout year. Assuming it's just minor surgery, should go one better next year.

Oh, is a casual heads up going to change the fact he’s had surgery? Get your hand off it, there’s no reason for the club to make any sort of statement unless it’s going to have significant impact on his preseason. Honestly, the sense of entitlement from fans about this stuff is ridiculous.
