Yep, needs those crucial wing stats of clearances and contested ball. Has been doing more of this recently btw, just ludicrous that it's required to be picked on the wing as an AA. Can't deny that Miller and Mills deserved a spot, but true wings will rarely get picked while we continue to over value disposal numbers, clearances and contested ball. They are important but not all there is to the game. Just ask Carlton.

The AA team should honour all aspects of the game. Excluding entire positions due to over valuing stat accumulation in the centre is simply wrong. I put little store in these things, so it's only a minor annoyance, but you'd think it'd get some attention rather than the pointless question of whether Hawkins should have been named captain - clearly just honorary, and who actually cares?

LOL the AA team has never borne any remote relationship to what a properly balanced team would be.

It's just stacked with buzz word names in any position they can cram them into.

As evidenced by the year Pavlich was named in the back pocket.
He was never named back pocket. He was named at full back in 02, because Chris Connolly moved him there. His rebound 50 stats are a pretty good indicator - in 02 he averaged 4.8 per game, and his next highest career average was 2.1

FMD the Bolton one was good, but you’d see a goal or two like that every week. Cuts off a pass, kicks a goal from the boundary. Whoop-de-doo.

Daicos’ for mine is the best, but Draper’s for a ruckman was also pretty exceptional.

Yeah but..."for a ruckman" feels like a flimsy argument for Goal of the Year to me.

Goal of the Week? Sure

But the Year?

Daicos took on 2 players while playing on the boundary, the second was a basketball bounce to himself, ran for 40 metres and snapped it from just inside the pocket

It's objectively goal of the year

objectively? In 5w same way that howe’s mark was objectively the best a few years ago?

Great to see Josh re-ranked in the top 10 of his draft year, albeit number 10.

Pick 10 – Josh Daicos, Collingwood (originally pick 57, father/son)

“He was a father/son, but eventually his name was called at 57,” Cornes said on SEN Sportsday.

“We discussed him at length in the All-Australian meetings we had throughout the year, and I think he’s got enormous upside.”

The shining light in what was otherwise a horrible draft for us. McLarty, C Brown, Kirby all taken before him 😭

I understand the sentiment but looking at it it may not be as bad as horrible. Picks 30, 35, 50, 57. Turn that into one potential excellent type who is now rated in the best 10 from the draft, one who was serviclble for a while and played more games than the average for a pick taken at 35 and 2 misses. Its not that far off what history says you should expect.

McLarty is the worst draft pick in Hines career. Couldn’t hear what was happening even at vfl level, turning arc of the titanic and little natural talent
