amazing what a bit of confidence has done.

I think an elite preseason where he improved his fitness, strength and speed may of helped too...

He was almost at the crossroads last year, probably had a bit of a reality check that it wasn't just going to happen for him because he was a Daicos and worked his ass off.

The great thing is if what you’re saying is true then you think he’d be in a great position to guide his brother through his first few years about putting in the hard yards and not relying on the ‘Daicos’ name alone.

I think you’ll find that he’s always worked hard on the track. I distinctly remember track watchers talking up his efforts consistently over the 2019 preseason. He mentioned in an interview that he’d had respiratory/asthma issues that had been holding him back and he’d only just recently got on top of them. Given he chose not to take his Dad’s number when it was offered to him, he doesn’t strike me as someone who ever thought it was just going to happen for him because of his name....

Perhaps, although you are reading an awful lot into a kid not caring what number his dad wore.

If it took 3 years for the club to get on top of his asthma that sounds pretty damning.

How much longer is Phillips contracted for? Geelong might have another crack at him this year if Daicos is keeping him off the wing.
I
He must be one of the most improved players in the competition Always looks so composed with the ball and rarely makes a mistake. He’s also very hard to tackle,I can hardly ever remember him getting caught holding the ball.
But also tackles strongly himself. Doesn’t rush gives himself time to find the right option. A bit like Pendles in that regard, his goal sense is very Daicosesque, funny that!

maybe but the fitness probably improved his confidence too... but i still think it's his state of mind. He might have viewed the whole daicos magic thing as a yoke around the neck. Now he might actually believe in it. Petracca is another one. He was alpha male at school and seemed to have lost it for the last 6 or 7 years. now he's confident enough to be the alpha male again

Not really. Respiratory and asthma issues can be notoriously hard to control sometimes. It’s not always a simple “Take 2 puffs of your preventer a day and your ventalin when you’re feeling short of breath”. That’s something I’ve been lectured about constantly given my wife worked for the asthma foundation for a considerable length of time...

1st I heard of his Asthma

Josh has struggled with the pressure of living up to his surname. When he played colts his social media accounts were under his mum's maiden name. Just a very shy kid but polite and friendly. No sense of entitlement, good work ethic.

Has had his share of soft tissue niggles, asthma, and learning to become comfortable in his own shoes.

The club had more faith in him than some here did, thank goodness.

His younger brother is more naturally confident, cocky even (in a good way). :)

Well I'll defer to the experts, but a club like Collingwood with literally access to the best experts and treatments in the world taking 3 entire years to find a solution seems a very very long time.

Can't you use trial and error and find the best solution after a year?

Sometimes you can, sometimes you can’t. My mum has had respiratory issues for 30 years, lost count of the specialists she’s seen and still can’t get 100% right. There’s no hard timeline to use with this sort of stuff unfortunately. We should just be happy that Josh has gotten on top of it now and it’s showing in his play.

IF I remember Correctly that Garry Abblett JR did not start his Career on Fire Either
Correct, although I’m not sure anyone is expecting Josh to reach those dizzying heights!

Not necessarily, no. Married to an asthmatic and it's still a massive curse after all these years.

So it's worth remembering that just because they are "on top" of his asthma now, it does't mean they always will be.

I am not saying he be anywhere as Domiant as Ablett JR but just showing another Father Son that took awhile to come good
