Very unfortunate news and will be sorely missed, however considering he could only manage 93 games over 9 seasons, I'm not surprised his body could no longer stand the rigours of the AFL.

Considering the rumours doing the rounds regarding Drummond meeting with North etc, you'd have to now assume that it was probably in respect of a possible assistant coaches role, possibly with his old mate Brad Scott.

Disappointing to see Drummond retire, but if the body isn't willing, then pointless going on.

Thanks & good luck for the future!

I'd actually have rathered him play on elsewhere than retire. 94 games over nine seasons is unfortunate for a player who really could have been elite if not for his body. Generally regarded as one of the best kicks in the comp, period, and one of the first devestating rebounding backmen. Great effort for someone coming off the rookie list though.

Anyone care to catalogue his long list of injuries. I seem to recall dodgy shoulders, quads, hammies, an ACL and now the degenerative hip.

I'd say that some blokes can be incredibly unlucky but he still got to play 94 AFL games, the majority of which were exceptional.

9 seasons ~ 200 games, Drummond plays 94 games. So unlucky to play less than 50% of games.

He's probably had one of the great careers for someone who never made the 100 games milestone.

This bloke was just the rock in defence over the last 6-9 years for us, I'd hate to imagine what depths our team would have sunk to if we didn't have Drummond.

Devistating left boot, one of the best kicks in the league and always a pleasure to watch, bravo Josh.

A great player when at his best and could be very damaging when he could use his kicking to great effect.

It is a shame that his injuries really affected a good career. That is part of the injustice of professional sport - lesser players will probably have longer careers.

He will be remembered affectionately as a Brisbane Lion.

It now really is a changing of the guard with respect to the depth of our medium sized back line types...no more Drummond, Stiller, Hawksley and Sheldon, with the latter two having spent a bit of time down back.

Golby and Harwood are the two that immediately spring to mind as the next generation medium sized backs to replace those guys, but we are losing a bit of experience and depth now that the above four have moved on.

thanks Drummo. Take care of that body of yours m8 :thumbsu:

Thanks for the memories Josh, you'll always be one of the best kicks to play the game. Good luck with wherever life takes you next.

I think the club saw this coming. That's probably why they got Sam Docherty. Best of luck for the future Drummo
