Nah mate, i'm seeking clarification for a media report.

Saw that also in more recent times. This gives me optimism from a North perspective when viewed in light of the 2015 Dangerfield machinations.
The longer it goes on the more likely he goes

 If it was a media report then that settles it obviously.

It wont make it to trade week that's for sure. It would be hard for both clubs to go into a busy trade period with this unresolved. As for Cam Macarthy ast year it will be sorted and announced prior if he's staying and at the start of trade week if he's going. Only other possibility is, if he nominates North, and the the clubs dont reach a trade deal, then everyone loses.
Only concern I have is one of your posters suggesting we are over a barrell. That's a dangerous attitude as Kelly cant leave our list without us agreeing except to the PSD.
I dont think North or us are stupid enough to get to that point, but either club could make it happen by being stubborn. I would also hope the clubs would care a bit more about Kelly's future wishes.

Deals almost always get done, that's not a concern. I expect the Giants to continue with their pick banking policy if Josh returns to Melbourne.

He's a great young player, but his hypothetical departure would only create a minor distraction to your clubs upcoming premiership juggernaut.

He's significant to us as I'm sure he would be to you, but if it has to be we move on and use the trade value to recruit skilled youngsters it's true.
We're pretty focussed on this year, and need him to be as well until then.

He was supposed to resign before the season even early season never happened I think north smelt blood and launched a huge bid but I unfortunately don't think he will leave. I hope he does the longer he holds off the better for north I reckon. He's a star and will cost a fortune to get from gws but so worth it.

I've not said anything about the trade price, I've repeatedly said the two clubs will get things done because neither club wants to mess up a solid trading foundation. I was responding in relation to a hypothetical number one pick and the further posted hypothetical of Josh Kelly being traded to another club against his wishes. I will go on record though and say I doubt severely any other club will match or better our offer and that Kelly will be a Roo or a Giant next season.

Wouldn't discount the saints from this discussion. Would be very surprised if we don't have an offer (albeit not as good as norths) and do have currency for a fair trade. Good trade history with gws also

Only reason he would leave us is for the long term more money contract.
If Saints dont offer more than North then they wont get him.

Understand the money part. But if say gws offer is 600, norths is 900 and saints is 800, he might choose money but with a more realistic short term finals chance

I think it's just a little bit much for the Saints to commit to, despite easily going to have decent trade bounty. Riewoldt looks like another year is in him so where there is Montagna money coming in that's probably offset by the Carlisle wage now being absorbed. I also think you have a great core group of youth and there will be effort to stitch that up because other clubs will be sniffing.

I reckon you could match the dollars but I don't think you can the length. All purely opinion of course.

Isn't alot of the appeal to north also contract length? Or would Saints be willing to do that long aswell?

It's hugely financial for Josh which goes without saying but his family history with North will help too. If he realises he still loves North and adds that to the offer it's decision made, not to be too romantic.

If North's offer is legit, if Kelly is at least semi-smart he will prefer to go to North.

I'm thinking,
if GWS wins premiership, Kelly to North 95% chance
If GWS just misses out, Kelly to North 50% chance

If I'm in Kelly's shoes I'd focus on getting the ultimate career achievement (Forget about Brownlow, Danger, Fyfe and Bont will probably take the next 10), raise my value as a player a bit more, then take on a luxurious contract. If he goes to North this year without a premiership I'm afraid he's going to regret missing a crucial piece to a successful career.

Winning a 2nd premiership is always nice, but the difference between winning the first and the second is nowhere near the difference between being a premiership player and not being one at all.

Norths is a mil and its over 10 years.

If they think itll take that much to get him to leave a finals contender i cant see him going for less to the Saints

Nathan Buckley went to Collingwood for premierships, just saying. They are never guaranteed.

Yeah, it's great for Josh. I mean who knows, by the end of the contract 1m might not be much but it's amazing financial security for him.

I'd imagine Saints offer wouldn't be close to 9 years.. more like 5. So even if suggested the 800k compared to 900k proposed(think it was 1m but whatevs, on paper it's 4m v 8.1m, because who knows what kind of contract he would be on after that.

Let's not be nieve, saints have a promising list, especially when compared to Norths. The real sticking point is length of contract. It's guaranteed money.

Not to mention Kelly grew up in St. Kilda's home turf. Lure of home perhaps?

Im not being nieve.

They do have a promising list, more than promising in my mind,
But he is best 22 in a contender that he loves and he has already been through the building years of 1 club to get to where they are.
North know this and as such are throwing everything at him, including the kitchen sink, to pry him lose, and supposedly even that may not do it.

Yet you want to offer less and hope because he grew up in the hood he will have home suburb loyalty?
Or that the list may be promising?

I dont see it.

That car ride from St Kilda to Arden St is pretty hellish.

How is that relevant to this discussion?

In this case Kelly has a better chance of winning a flag by staying.

It's relevant because they aren't guaranteed and I've seen it said that Kelly is choosing between flags and money. I'm simply saying the money is the only thing he can be absolutely certain of.

It's not like North wouldn't be investing that money to give themselves the best chance of a flag whether the experts on BF think the team can be good enough in the next few years or not. Really depends what project we're selling and how much he buys into it.

He will win his GWS premiership this year, then get his 9 million dollar cake and eat it too.

It's not as if North aren't in the business of trying to win flags.
