I think "eventually" is understating it. How many very good players would be eligible for nomination through these indigenous and multicultural academies in the 20 years prior to their introduction? Now compare it to the brief list for the NSW zones that get people up in arms these days about them "always being AFL heartland". It's good to see them introduced but it's also pandering and potentially overcompensation.

And the AFL will have to continually change the rules in their never-ending search to fix their initial mistake and try to make the competition fair, or at least not quite so one sided

They have what? This isnt soccer mate. Need to spend 95% of salary cap to do that some players get overpaid

Crunch the figures yourself.

Boomer, Dal Santo, Petrie, Firrito, Wells & Black were let go last year. The lowest paid would've been Firrito. Black was on $400-420k. Add to that the likelihood of Swallow & Thomas being let go at the end of the year.

North have some serious cash to throw around.

Just because those players have left doesn't mean you have all that cash. You still need to spend 95% of the cap so you would've bumped up other players contracts.
Another poster said you had up to 3 million spare to throw at players, which is idiotic.

Idiotic would be getting into an argument with you over hypotheticals.

Idiotic would be overpaying average players.

Players contract structure can be changed to accommodate reaching the threshold.

There's no argument here. If you believe you have 3 million dollars spare then so be it. I just find it mathematically impossible.

I know. Their short-sighted decision making has lead to a Victorian dominated competition over the last decade. It's good to see a supporter of a club receiving some of this largess pointing out the hypocrisy. :thumbsu:

I have no doubt that at some point the AFL will realise that the solution of the problem that the Northern states Academies created is not giving Victorian clubs an Academy.

Of course unlike fans from the Northern clubs I can acknowledge when the AFL make an error in our favour, the fans of th enorthern clubs have been on the drip feed for so long they now think it's their right to have an advantage way above and beyond the rest of the competition. It's how Brisbane won their flags and the same for Sydney. It's also how AFL have built the GWS list.

inb4 whadda bout the advantage of the G, or some other equally ridiculous reply that will come from one of your fellow giants fans

There has been a non Victorian side in the Grand Final every year since 2011...

It's hardly the AFL's that Sydney couldn't perform on the day. Last year saw a non Vic team on top, two in the top 4 and 4 in the top 8... How is that domination when there are more Victorian sides in the comp?

How is Geelong, Hawthorn, Geelong, Collingwood, Geelong, Sydney, Hawthorn, Hawthorn, Hawthorn, Bulldogs not?

When it went Lions x3, Port, Sydney, West Coast the AFL commissioned an inquiry into what needed to be done to help Victorian football. That's 6 from 6. When it's 10 from 11 the other way I get told it's not a domination. Good news for you is that the AFL seems to agree with you, not me.

What do the AFL need to do to stop Sydney choking on the big stage? Or GWS choking in a Prelim?

There are plenty of interstate sides playing in finals and one in every GF for the last 5 years. The AFL can't hold their hands on Grand Final day.

We made a decision to let Teloar go as he wouldn't sign for the money Shiel and Cogs did in 2015 for 2 years on their initial contracts. It was the right call.

You are committing credibility hari kari with your own logic.

So why was the AFL conducting its previous inquiry after the failure of Essendon, Collingwood and Collingwood? That's 50% of the previous run. I count 40% all Victorian finals in the current run. Not exactly a magnitude of difference.

I like how premierships are what counts in everything else but now second and even not making the GF counts just the same. Heh.

Ahhhhh, you're hijacking the thread mate.

I have no idea. I don't remember ever saying they should have had an inquiry either? A Just stating it's hardly a Victorian dominance when we've had an interstate team in the grand final every year and just haven't shown up on the day.

It's exactly what happened. The club announced they were offerred similar contracts. Challenging you're comprehension perhaps.

Okay, then if it comes down to money & home, you accept that Josh is homeward bound.
