Show some respect I reckon. Keep your personal shit out of here.
Yeah, heaven forbid it should escalate to, say, threatening to cave peoples heads in with bricks.

I honestly don't know why he's not on holiday right now.

The clontarf academy is an excellent example of something that does work. Putting a guy into a pressure cooker AFL system is not.

Wholeheartedly agree. Using Josh Simpson as an example - rather than him being drafted at 17/18 and thrown into a completely foreign evironment could he have been better served spending a couple of years at a city based academy with others of a similar age and background playing football in a local league (NEAFL as an example) to serve as an apprenticeship/bridging program to the AFL. Only then might they be eligible for the draft if they decide to nominate after experiencing a taste of city life and a more structured environment

I'm all for the biffo but there's a time and a place.

Back on topic. Is there any international equivalent the afl/Freo might want to consider looking at. For example, how does soccer go about including people from the remote areas of Africa. Or the NBA/NFL. Any major sporting body could provide useful comparisons really.

Every bloody thread this guy is in, he knows everything, and anyone who disagrees with him knows nothing at all or is launching some sort of attack on him.

It's pointless engaging him Reggie.

The guy is a tool.
Point taken.

He did go to Boarding School in Adelaide, yes it was about his footy, but more about keeping him away from trouble in Yalgoo, Mullewa, Mt Magnet, Gero.

However, grabbing these kids young into an academy situation, where footy is a privilege after study and commitment to the rules in place is vital, and should be heavily funded by the government and the AFL.

We discussed it a little earlier in the thread.

Its also up to the clubs to make a sensible assessment of how the potential draftee is going.

Freo have been making alot of punts with the 1st round picks and this isn't the first one to blow up in our face unfortunately.

I don't think that post even got deleted

I was about to ask what the AFL's role, if any, is in this. They're all for expanding the game so that it's seen to be multicultural, but what specifically do they do to assist Australia's first people into the system. Can anything be set up so that Josh is mentored by somebody like Adam Goodes, for instance, even by phone/text/email.

To be fair, I think that they are the most pro-active sporting body on this issue in the country.

By my take on it is it is very draft orientated and more based on feel good reconciliation stuff.

That's ok, but a more organised structure needs to be set up.

IMO, sport is the biggest factor we have in saving these kids from themselves and the despair they currently live in. However, there has to be deep cultural understanding and allowances to make it work.

On the Goodes thing, whilst the sentiment is noble, a Murray from NSW/VIC is not the guy we need. he isn't connecting enough with the nyoongars that we have in the squad.

He needs his own people to mentor him, not the dickhead young Yamtji's who are in his ear at present.

nonsense, we have plenty of support here.
I know. It doesn't hurt to explore other avenues. I'm not particularly fond of Goodes, but Josh may consider him a legend. There's a key somewhere, you just have to find it.

It's not like he's never been away from his community before:

Current actions are speaking louder than previous words.

Someone should show that article to Josh I reckon. I don't claim to know what he's dealing with but I reckon he's probably not in the best frame of mind. It might be of use to present him with his own words and thoughts from a time when things were going better for him.

This crossed my mind but at the end of the day, would Goodesy be any more qualified than Johnson or Walters at this stage? I imagine the same thing would've happened if Sydney drafted Simpson regardless, Goodes or no Goodes. Maybe someone who has taken the path Simpson risks likely walking if he parts ways with Freo, like say Ash Sampi who can speak from raw experience having walked a somewhat similar path.

See my signature. He lost his shit and was going to get a few of us bricked by his big boi mates in Perth.

Nutcase.
Yeah I saw that, but I haven't seen the thread..

So totally the opposite of your previous stance that kids are reluctant to leave the farm to play AFL because they just love the place, therefore totally at odds with the topic of discussion. That's what I thought.

I'm not sure which part you think is reversing my previous stance. You're really grasping at straws, again, because you can't have a conversation without getting personal. Even though I said nothing controversial, you're actively looking for something to start an argument over.

A bit rich from someone that threatened people and said that they would smash another poster with a brick?

Please leave.

People talk like this is an aboriginal problem.. have you considered that Josh is just mentally weak and can't commit to the lifestyle of AFL footballer. That ain't just an aboriginal thing

Sampi was massively overrated footballer but you have to give him credit for admitting he made some massive mistakes in his life.

Very skilled footballer but struggled to adapt to AFL life. Could have been anything and would be a great person for Simpson to talk to

You have to consider also that Johnson and Walters are both Nyungah (Johnson is actually listed as Balardung, but I'm still trying to get my head around that) and Simpson is Yamatji. The point is, they're both from the South West, and Yalgoo is a foreign place to them as well.

My experiences are with Nyungah people*, and the family you belong to is extremely important, as is the way your mob has interacted with another in the past. What the politics are between Nyungah and Wadjella Yamatji I couldn't tell you, but it may just be worthwhile to involve someone from outside WA. Goodes is also a Brownlow medalist and current AOTY.

* It's going to deflect a bit, but as the subject is cultural, I'll explain why I spell it that way. The Nyungah people themselves tell me they don't care how we wadjellas spell it, because spelling is our thing, not theirs. I spell it the way it sounds to me when spoken by a Nyungah person. There is a distinct y sound to the n.

EDIT: Holy shit, what the hell happened there.:drunk:

The club, the coach and people close to the story have confirmed that this is definitely related to cultural and identity issues.

Please don't try and paint it otherwise.

Have you ever considered that you're mentally weak if you can't appreciate that posts like that aren't useful?

It's a Josh thing, and Josh just happens to be aboriginal.
