Military, Air Force, Navy? They also have to take on the unemployment welfare.

Wow. This could take this thread in a whole new direction. Lets just say there are a whole load of factors, including these, that both sides of the fence, both good and evil , have more knowledge of than I.

Yeah, very understandable, especially the bit in purple.

Having come over here and then being whisked out bush at age 12, I understand how even simple language and cultural issues can make even the most apparently mainstream average people disconnect and feel excluded.

It took three years for me to get used to calling my Mom Mum, even longer for me to get used to not hearing Hispanic, Hebrew, Russian, French and Portugese every time I went down to the markets at Freo.

Just learning to adapt to a society where (as a bloke) sport is so heavily emphasised, and glorified, and poetry, dance, classical music and theatre are so sneered at, took ages. Took me many more years to adjust to understand why so many Australians don't see indigenous people as part of our Australia, or why the underprivelged and underclass in Australia cop the bludger tag.

Dislocation and cultural isolation is experienced by many more "average" people than you'd think.

Like when Daisy Thomas tries to pretend he enjoys being a Carltank player...
On a side note I recently enjoyed the productions of Wicked at West End and Moulin Rouge in Paris. Nothing to sneer at there. Terrific entertainment.

Poetry, dance, classical music and theatre. Sounds like you were stolen from the royal palace. Are you a royal twin? When can we take you back to claim your throne?

If only dude. Poetry, dance and theatre take many forms, not just the classical English model. As Bangarra Troupe, the apy awards mob, the Archie Roach/Ruby Hunter poetry award and the Opera Australia indigenous awards winners would highlight.

Actually, I'm from the same school that spawned Beastie Boys, and my class (year) has 8 Tony award winners, 4 Grammy award winners and several multi award winning writers for TV and movies. Plus a Presidential poet laureate and a Nobel award winner ( both from the same school not my year though).

Hard to go overnight from that creative environment to one where the whole entire community has no musical instruments except a drum and a 6 string plastic guitar, where listening to any music on the radio is seen as a feminine task, and where nothing matters except how much you drink (as a 12 year old), how hard you punch or how many sheep/cattle/horses your daddy owns.

I'm completely ignorant on knowledge of these events, happy for you to take the lead. Just overheard the rumblings when I was in North Wales in April.

Ouch, that's a massive psychological shift for a kid. Those country kids would have given you hell. I can see how that would influenced you.

Reminds me of this:

Wake in fright? Awesome movie. My favourite part of it is at the start when he goes into the pub and the camera pans along all the bar flies. Authentic as all get out.

Q&A on the ABC tonight discussed a host of stuff we've attempted to cover on here including Pilger and Utopia,White Australia policy assimilation, current government policy.Rosalie Kunoth-Monks got the 5 pts for BOG.She is from Utopia and is an absolutely formidable sheila.Actually convinced me in 1 short speech to ditch all reservations I have harboured about Pilger's style and work.Shared some real insight.
Recommended viewing and interesting what she had to say about Noel Pearson Ripper as I am about 2/3 through reading his Charlie Perkins speech you referenced.

She was incredible wasn't she.

In polar opposite to that bitter and twisted old Lib on the panel. She made him piss blood in the end.

I'm actually a moderate between her and Noel Pearson's opinions. There has to be a certain amount of assimilation whilst maintaining culture, tradition and identity.

Incredible for sure I'll have to find out a bit more about her don't know much at all except she was a bit of stunner in that flick from memory.
Fair and accurate to say she is everything Peter Coleman is not and will never be.I honestly couldn't believe what was coming out of his trap.

She was definitely a good sort!

I'm hoping that tomorrow mornings headlines include her being held back after the show after threatening him with some "justice".

That is, in all honesty, one of the most compelling movies I've ever seen - only watched it this year for the first time.

Sounds like I missed a rare good one.

I'm sorry, but I've gone so off that show. Maybe they've tightened it up a bit lately, but on certain topics in particular, I just don't bother. It's like following the SRP board on here - just entrenched extremes stating the totally expected at each other as if it's revolutionary wisdom, and often completely ignorant of the others position.

Wanna send a link? Would love to watch.

http://www.abc.net.au/tv/qanda/past-programs-by-date.htm

There is the program website GilG.

scon Might watch it later if I get time. I had made a pledge to myself that I would ignore it until they stopped loading the panel .

On Rosalie

Interesting how Rosalie has turned, an LNP politician (whatever letters were at the time) in the NT
Had a lot to do with her at one stage, interesting how she’s changed her tune.
Previously on about the same line as Pearson now despises him.

As a matter of interest Ripper, what way do you see the panel being 'loaded'?

There is usually only one conservative vs 4 or five Lefties including Jones.

Jones continually interrupts conservatives , ofter changes the subject saying "We Will come back to that" but never does , yet allows the others to talk unimpeded.

Catalaxy run "Interruption lotto" on how many times He will interrupt.
