Best of luck to Josh.

He gave his all with guts and determination at the Hawks but his frail body let him down at AFL level.

Body was the only thing holding him back in the AFL.

Should be a good player for Port, hard at it and versatile with a bit of height and pace.

Shame he didn't make it to AFL, thought he had something for a while then.

What Josh lacked in physique, he made up for through his gut busting determination.

Too bad he couldn't cut it at the elite level but all the best to him, he was afterall a (former) Hawk and deserves some respect.

G'day peoples

Have heard that Josh Thurgood has signed to play for the Port Magpies

Is it a good move, by both parties?

The bit about Josh is at the bottom of the article

He should do well in the SANFL, if his form over the last few years in the VFL is any indication. His skill level is quite good in the VFL, but at the AFL, he never adjusted to the increase in intensity and so he came across as not being very skilled. Provided that the Magpies can help him physically, there's no reason why he shouldn't succeed. He's probably missed the boat as far as AFL is concerned, but he has had a taste of life at the top level and I'm sure he'll see 2008 as a means of putting himself back in the shop window for any interested club.

Best of luck to you Josh.

At a time when there wasnt much else to cheer about, that this skinny, red-headed kid would put his body on the line and have a real crack spoke volumes. It was this big heart that won him a place in the side, and Im sure a few other players coming through noticed how highly Clarko regarded it.

Has my respect for the effort that he gave to the club.

Do you guys think he could play as a key forward in the SANFL?

If not what do you think might be his best position (what position did he play for the Hawks when he managed to get a game there?).

Yeah great call! especially in the first half of the 05 season!! he did show alot with his pace, guts and flamin red locks! geez if he was 15 kilos heavier hed probably be an elite afl player!

Thanks guys (& gals?)

The Thurgood & Byron Pickett additions to the Magpies should see some increased accountability.
