It's not 2004-2006 anymore, I don't think he's clearly number 1 now. The old Judd would have torn Richmond a new one last night. He's still so ridiculously talented and elite that it's taken a bad groin injury to bring him back the pack though.

If he wasn't playing against a laughably poor Richmond this thread might have some integrity... however...
Look, he's a very skilled outside midfielder. He rarely won his own ball last night, but when he was given it - usually in high pressure situations, sure - he used it to excellent effect and the benefit of his team. I believe that Baby Ablett is a far more well-rounded player. Far more. And just as skilled. Judd is good, but Ablett is better.

I think it is quite clear he isn't number 1 right now - but it is hard to run without a groin.
He showed his signs last night that he was back to his best with a few shimmies etc- but he doesn't have seasoned bodies like Embley and Stenglein to block for him anymore.
His best is the best i have seen as a midfielder - but he's not back there yet
I don't think he'll ever be back to that best. Like many, I suspect these groin injuries are chronic, and will never be fully gotten over. Won't stop the media members with a Judd-fetish from talking him up though.
When has a player ever had their career ended at 26 by a groin injury?
Even players who have knee reconstructions come back to something approaching their best at that age. Write off Judd at your peril, particularly considering his performance last night...
i made a thread on brownlow allocation votes for last nightLast year Judd stood out in a pretty poor side. I rank him up there but nowhere near Ablett who performs week after week in a very talented side yet still stands out and Franklin and Hodge. For those saying Judd was BOG last night - think again. 23 possessions is not setting the world on fire. He was quite well held in the first half so how you BOG from that effort i will never know. Blues fans talking it up again I think.
There will be another thread exactly the same as this posted here 2moro morning but with Ablett or Franklin is number 1.
1 game into the season, and he was playing against Witches Hats. If he manages to play well against Hawthorn or Geelong (which he failed to do in both games last year) then I'll probably agree that he's back to his best. Not there yet though
Yep, of all the regular season games played this year, these two are right up there in terms of best performances. But Judd (and Murphy) have been the standout performers of 2009 so far, so I guess its up to them to respond...
Im still depressed and gutted about last night, It is so hard supporting Richmond sometimes... why we do it, ill never know..
but watching Carlton last night, despite however reason they obtained him...
the fact is, He is just the most brilliant footballer in every way. I have not seen him play for quite sometime, but he is without a doubt the best player in the AFL by a long way! The way he finds the ball, always finds the best option and its like he is invisible in traffic... they can never stop him!
The man is not human!

The OP is a clear example of someone who gets a premature ejaculation when judd shows a bit of form, consequently leading to his massive overratedness.
Context please.
Once judd starts performing like this week in week out, and more importantly against the bigger and better teams with a harder tag, then I'll give him some credit for returning to somewhere near his peak from years ago.
Until then, **** no is he top 3, let alone top 3 midfielders.
For what it's worth, I do believe this is the year Judd can get back to his best, and Judd is not an outside midfielder, he's both an inside and outside gun (like ablett).

Couldnt agree moreNo doubt about it? Ablett makes Judd look like an average battler.
Ablett makes Judd look like an auskick kid.
Safe to say now Judd is not the best anymore.
