Will any of the new jumpers that debuted for the Ansett Cup this year carry over into the home and away season?

I didn't care for Melbourne's or Footscray's new threads much. I guess in each case they wanted to make the red stand out more.

Collingwood's was good, although I think that it will create more confusion when they play against other black teams like Essendon and St. Kilda. I liked Richmond's but it would be hard to picture them in anything else but the slash.

Fremantle's is well....there's not a lot you can with those colours.

SB, the jumper situation in the AFL is a joke and its about time something was done about it.

Too many teams jumpers clash and it sometimes makes watching a game very difficult. Its about time all teams had 2 uniforms one mainly in its darker colour and another mainly in its lighter colour as they do in the NBA.

Some of the alternate jumpers worn by teams today are a joke, they are basically the same as their orginal jumpers but have the club emblem on the front. This is basically another means to make money for the clubs and does not solve the problem of teams jumpers clashing.

What about the clash the other night in the Kangaroos-Collingwood match. What a shocker. If the Kangaroos had worn white shorts there would have been no problem.

I've said it before ... I'll say it again.

The basic problem is that the A.F.L. have got shit for brains.

There's no other way to put it ... shit for brains.

Its lime green with a big 'Red Spot Special' sign on the front.

It makes Hawthorns Ansett Cup jumper from a few years ago look good.

Maybe the AFL should make that their 'away' jumper!

Last week they showed footage from the 1980 Night Final which was North vs. Collingwood. Both of the uniforms were identical. Vertical stripes, black numbers, solid coloured socks. The lone difference being one had blue, the other black. Match played at night in bad lighting, so the blue appeared very dark, almost black.

Fortunately both clubs have changed just enough since then to at least be somewhat apart from each other.

IT'S FUNNY HOW ****NICK COMPLAINED WHEN THE AFL ASKED MELBOURNE TO DESIGN AN AWAY JUMPER YET THEY DEBUT A NEW UGLY ANSETT CUP JUMPER EVERY YEAR.

****IN DEE MORONS.

The eagle home jerser certinly clashes - you look like carlton from one side and hawthorn from the other.

The trouble comes when you play at home - the away team is then to change - but carlton and Hawthorn's alternates are the same colour - DER!!!

What alternate away design are you proposing for Essendon? As far as I recall, they're the only team which hasn't ever worn a different guernsey. And DON'T try saying it's up to the other team to change their jumper to avoid a clash.

as an eagle supporter i would LOVE to have a ligther and darker strip, the strip of 94 with the light blue is simply the best, the light blue + yellow was awesome. That plus one of our newer + darker jumpers would be perfect.
but wtih a profit of 2.7 million last year the club isnt complaining, only some supporters :P

tony shaw -

melbourne have had the same pre season jumper for the last 2 years ok, so dont start about Joseph either. Why should we have to change our jumper anyway. who gives a toss about what the afl says. And no matter what happens, our ansett cup jumper will never carry over, cos we will NEVER change our strip that we have now ok, it has been around for ages

okay well thats my opnion, and i dont care what anyone else thinks cos its right OK !

YOU SHOULD CHANGE IT BECAUSE IT'S UGLY AND THE MOST ORDINARY LOOKING JUMPER IN THE COMP. HOW CAN YOU SAY THEY'LL NEVER CHANGE THEIR STRIP WHEN THEY HAVE HAD A DIFFERENT ANSETT CUP JUMPER THE LAST TWO OUT OF THREE YEARS?

I RECKON THE SHOULD CHANGE THE RED TRIANGLE ON THE FRONT TO PINK BECAUSE THEY PLAY LIKE FAIRIES!

Not very observant are we???????
As far as I know the jumper that the Bulldogs wore for the Ansett Cup is the same one they have been using for the past 3 pre-seasons.

TEAMS SHOULD BE FORCED TO WEAR JUMPERS THAT ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM THEIR OPPOSITION.

HOME TEAMS SHOULD ALWAYS WEAR THEIR TRADITIONAL JUMPERS WITH THE AWAY TEAM TO WEAR A JUMPER THAT CLASHES.

THIS PROBLEM IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST IMPEDIMENTS TO ENJOYING THE GAME ON TV.

THIS OF COURSE IS A NO BRAINER SOLUTION WHICH IS USED ALL OVER THE WORLD BUT NOT THE AFL OHHHHHH NO, THERE STILL STRUGGLING TO WORK IT OUT. JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THE WEAK KNEED BACKWARD THINKING MORONS AT THE AFL.

GET OFF YOUR ARSE AFL AND MAKE TEAMS DESIGN JUMPERS WHICH ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM THEIR TRADITIONAL STRIPS.

EG. ESSENDON AND RICHMONDS TRAINING STRIPS ARE EXCELLENT EXAMPLES OF WHAT COULD BE USED, ESSENDON HAS AN ALL RED STRIP WITH BLACK STRIPES DOWN THE SIDES AND RICHMOND HAS AN ALL YELLOW STRIP WITH BLACK CLAW MARKS, WHICH IS THE REVERSE OF THEIR PRE SEASON JUMPER. ITS THAT SIMPLE!

I apologise for going slighly off topic here but my major criticism is with the AFL's policy on allocating the shorts colour.

In previous years, we had the complicated system of home team - coloured shorts, away team - white shorts.

Short, simple and effective.

For some reason, the AFL in their wisdom have decided that if a team with white in their jumper plays a team with no white, the team with white in their jumper is required to wear the white shorts. (Does that make sense how I have written it?)
wink.gif

Meaning the clubs with white in their jumpers, namely St Kilda, Sydney, Geelong, Carlton, Western Bulldogs, Kangaroos, Collingwood, Port Adelaide and Fremantle are in some cases forced to wear white shorts playing at home. 15 or 16 games in white shorts is not good enough.

I do agree with everyones thoughts regarding the jumpers. This is one issue where most people seem to be in agreement.

By the way Stealth, could you repeat the address where we find the team smilies you made. Thought you did a great job and I wouldn't mind using them. (Well the saints one anyway).

funny how we got along for over a hundred years with largely unchanged strips.

reason for alternative strip: To increase merchandising revenue.
care factor by AFL for conflicting strips: zero.

If you doubt me then just consider that the AFL and the VFL are standing around smiling while the Coburg tigers and the Werribbee Tigers play in the same competition.
this brings all this 'branding' bullshit that clubs go through (what the hell is exactly a Power?) so that they can be marketed as sixteen different flavours of the same product.
This is accompanied by the commensurate amount of spirit and soul we've grown to know and love from the newspeak of marketing.
Can people appreciate that the AFL's first and foremost obligation is to make money out of the game, even if this means killing the game in the process. the only way they can survive is to trade their way out of debt. If that venture fails, then so does a national footy comp. Ansett Cup jumpers are all a part of this aforementioned marketing strategy.
Football began to die the day the game was taken out of the hands of the clubs that, after all, are the ones who play the bloody game!

Well said Phil.

Of course, you'd expect such insightful comments from a Fitzroy supporter.

Get real phil, it's time to live the real world.

I take it from your comments that you would like to have the VFL still running around. Of course the VFL would be dead and buried by now.

Good to see dinosaurs like you bleating about money ruining the game...........not!

Since when has sport been about the "real world"? Since when can a loser like me claim to have "won a premiership"? Since when does a group of people who kick inflatable objects get paid millions have anything to do with the "real world"?

Congratulations on completely missing the point!

I heard on the radio that pain Jackson wants all clubs to have three jumpers. One for home games, one for away and one for Ansett cup games. Why he wants a different jumper for the Ansett cup I don't know.

Hi all,

The current situation regarding AFL way jumpers has always been a pet hate of mine. The AFL has been so weak in introducing away jumpers where their is a colour clash, it's a joke.
So I've quickly come up with a solution for every club, although some would stay as they are. Please let me know what everyone thinks of this proposal:

Adelaide - Same design, swap predominant navy with red
Brisbane - Gold with maroon lion and blue vee and cuffs
Carlton- Light blue with Navy emblem, vee and cuffs
Collingwood - Green and Gold stripes (Australia's team?)
Essendon - Red with black bomber emblem (current training jumper)
Fremantle - no idea
Geelong - Current design (mainly navy with GFC logo)
Hawthorn - Royal blue and yellow stripes (original colours), royal blue back
Melbourne - Red with blue logo (training jumper)
North Melb - Current away jumper
Port Adelaide - Teal blue with black and white thrown in
Richmond - Orange with black claw marks
Sydney - Light blue with navy yoke (NSW colours)
St Kilda - current away jumper
Western Bulldogs - Same jumper design, swap blue and red
West Coast - Yellow with navy and orange thrown in somewhere

These are all off the top of my head, so there hasn't been a lot of thought. Much like the AFL really.

Cheers,
FitzroyRamone
