I went into the new Adidas Originals store in Rundle Mall today, looked through, pretty much your normal Originals gear, until I came across their new denim range, made by Diesel. Couldn't believe how much they are charging for them, $480. TBH anybody who buys a pair is an idiot. So many better jeans for half the price. Disgrace.

Gee  that's a lot of money for a pair of jeans, practically half a grand.

I once paid $230 for a pair of jeans, not worth it. I've got jeans for considerablly less which are much better quality.

Personally, I wouldnt spend any more than $100-150, and even then I think you can pick up decent jeans for less if you find the right pair. Fashion changes way too often for me to justify spending $480 on a piece of clothing.

Is there anyone worth talking to who would actually be impressed that you spent that much on a pair of jeans?

Stick to real jeans.

$100 should get you a decent pair, if you do your homework.

(And by homework I merely mean use 5% of Michelangelo Rucci's intelligence).

Not sure about for guys, but for the ladies finding a good pair of jeans is like trying to find a port supporter without a mullet, very difficult. Jeans keep, so consider value, you'll generally get around about 200 plus wears out of them, therefore $200 plus is not a crazy amount to pay if you find the right pair. In Selfridge's London, you can have a pair of custom cut (customized using computer technology to find the perfect fit for your body) for about GBP3000, so if you find the perfect jeans without the use the technology you'll probably find you have bargain ;).

For what its worth, guys lack total credibility when it comes to a) fashion or b) what value in terms of fashion actually is. :p

I've spent close to $400 on Diesel jeans before (twice). I love them, they are great jeans, the best I've ever had. I've never regretted getting either of them. I still wear them all the time and the first pair I got over three years ago.

I would never get Adidas jeans though. If you want to spend that much you may as well just go for the Diesel's.

$180 on "Seven" jeans...... and that was on sale! was the highest i've ever paid

I was on Holiday in Perth so I spoiled myslef I won't do it again but boy are they great jeans 3 years now no wear and tear and still fit I basically wear them every day!

Picked up a new pair of threads recently. $210 RRP, but got em a tad cheaper as i no the bloke who owns the store etc..... Most comfortable jeans ive worn ever. Excellent quality denim as well.

I hate having champagne tastes on a water budget.

Anything $100 or under is ok I reckon. Once you start getting up over that you are pretty much spending money that is better used on something else ... bit like me paying to stink up the golf course today when I could have bought a 6 pack of some nice imported beer instead :)

The older you get the less you tend so spend on these things as brands become less important plus you have to explain wasting money to a significant other which is always scary.

If you ever have the opportunity to go to Japan, go to the UniQlo store in Ginza and buy some jeans from there, so comfortable, best fit, japanese denim, last forever. I reckon i paid about 300 yen for a pair, it makes me feel like a cheaparse, but whilst i wear reasonably priced jeans 150-250ish, if I had the option, it would be UniQlo all the time. I think they are opening a boutique in Melbourne or Sydney by the end of the year, so if they do, go there, and buy some quality jeans.

i've have had 3 pairs of jean in the past 6 years, all bought from target or big w (ok i'm a tightass!)

for a combined total of around $80

shouldn't ever need to pay more than around $30 for a pair

Would never pay more than $130, I mean to an extent they're all jeans and look pretty similar anyway. I don't see the point in buying a big brand option particularly whn 9/10 people aren't even going to be able to pick the brand.

guys you're missing the point.

diesel jeans are hand made from the best fabrics in italy, they are a designer luxury good. is $480 too much, of course it is. however, that's what they sell for in europe.
there are heavy foreign exchange implications involved too - A$480 has a very different level of earning power associated with it, than say the GBP£200+ they would sell for here.

Here a lot of people could spend that, if they really wanted too, and liked them enough; however the price, converted into $A, is relatively a much higher impost.

the price is just the conversion of what they sell for abroad, not a sense of nearly $500 worth of quality and value. though luxury goods do not have a linear relationship between price and quality anyway.

I usually spend 120 on a pair of jeans and they usually last me a year before they get all stetched, becomme to big and fade.

Its harder for females, our clothes cost more! And Yes I do sometimes think.....maybe I could pull of a male pair

480 is fair expensive though, when you think about it, you could buy a car with that money, not a very good one. but still! Still I just got back from europe and 480 AUD dollars is not very expensive for anything.
:p

$480 would only fill my car with petrol less than ten times these days so it's all relative.

There is a young girl at work who paid about $400 for a pair of sunglasses which look not dissimilar to a pair I bought at Target for $12.50 (I describe them as unisex :)). I have had a lot of complements for how good those cheap sunnies look too.

I think the first denim jeans were originally made by prisoners so it is amazing how the have become such a high fashion item in the same material.

Could be wrong, but I think they originated in the gold mines during the Californian gold rush in the 1800s.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't spend over $100 on a pair of jeans.

I can't imagine Vader in jeans. Perhaps if they ever had a "casual" function aboard the Death Star. Guessing they would be black regardless.

These aren't the jeans you're looking for, move along.

Diesel jeans retail for £75-120 ($180-270)some styles a little more if you go to your John lewis' or selfridges, so seriously, something that is made by Diesel for a company such as adidas, to double the price is ludicrous. Even evisu jeans (what you would probably call the equivalent) don't come close to this, IIRC they retail at about £120-150, or about $250 here. I did read however that they are going to/ are retailing in the UK from £130, so about $280, which whilst still a high price for jeans, is almost half what some styles here are retailing for, they are also retailing between $160-210 in the US. Yep blame it on the exhange .
