Just read that the England camp is even more divided than I thought. Apparently Root told Anderson and Broad to pitch the ball up on day 1, but they deliberately ignored him and dug it in short. Time for the old boys to retire I reckon - if you can't follow your skipper's instructions, then that's a problem!!!

I love Test cricket, especially the Ashes against the arch enemy.
Having said that, I do love what the Barmy Army bring to the table and Im really looking forward to their banter about that cheating scumbag Steve Smiff.

IMO he should never have been allowed to play for Australia again after what he done to our proud Australian reputation.
Cry all you like you sniveling piece of **** but you should've retired after sandpaper gate.

Whats your prediction?

The title is so wrong...

And both Australian football and Sweet qootball make sense for non-Aussies. Chipmunk is living proof of that.

If the English could stop dropping catches, would they complain about their bowlers? Or are they complaining about their bowlers, because they know they cannot catch the ball?
I heard a rumour that Jos Buttler recently tried to sign a new contract, but he kept dropping the pen :-).

Has to be mate, surely someone is making a few in shield cricket?
That's the trouble with the Big Bash starting in December and finishing at the end of January - THERE IS NO SHIELD CRICKET!!!!! So the only way to force the selectors to notice you is by making runs in a Mickey Mouse smash and grab competition, which ain’t ideal.

Give Henry Hunt a crack.

I am not biased towards the Redbacks Jellybacks at all

Given the kid has not played in a winning First Class match, it might give him the chance of a win.

It's not a silly idea at all. We've got 3 tough away tours to Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India next year, so we need to find out NOW what kids like Hunt and Street have at the international level. If Harris is struggling against a rabble like England, how long would he last in India?

Yegads and gazooks! I am really hanging out for the Boxing Day Test to start.

Aside from the fun and diversion we all get from the Sweet FA and the hilarity of Carlton fans discussing their mob's prospects on innumerable MB threads, there is not much around.

In home Ashes years the week before xmas always provides the hilarity of English cricket fans bemoaning their team.

The Guardian Online has a number of cricket threads attached to selected cricket articles. The articles themselves are pretty good but it is the ensuing discussion, mainly from English posters, that provides the motherlode of comedy gold.

Highly recommended!

I see Harris has been confirmed for Boxing Day - last chance surely!!!

Not whilst Langer is there, he'll be persisted with. Methinks that if Pucovski didn't have the habit of a gust of wind KOing him, CA would turf Harris and we'd have Pucovski as opener matching Warner instead, which would obviously be infinitely better.

Don't think CA have the balls to go with a Hunt, Street or insert other opener since they already shafted Renshaw previously and now want "stability" in that stead. If we get a consistent Harris & Warner failing montage, like 2 for FA in those next series, then CA might pull the trigger, but simply not in an Ashes, that's just not CA.

They rest bowlers because jizz in pants and why not? But batters you really only replace middle goers and Head has been by and large great, so you're not going there either.

Harris is lucky that we have the world's best number 3, because Marnus has never failed since assuming that position. But he WILL eventually fail, and if Harris fails at the same time, it'll be interesting to see how we fight back from 2 for 10.

Im in this camp too. For me, Harris is there (and they can afford him to be), because Warner, Marnus and Smith are 3 of the top 10 batsmen. They’ve got time and the ability to play with the 1 spot. For me, I’d like to see Renshaw with another crack.

We need 2 openers, remembering

Warner overseas = Gary Rohan in Finals.

Steve Smith - good catcher? Yes. Very good catcher? Yes. Has taken some absolute rippers? Yes. Great catcher? Sure.

Overrated catcher? Abso-****ing-lutely.

For someone who has continually dropped catches in all formats and of all levels of difficulties, it drives me mad how much he is lauded as a fieldsman.

Sorry, Peter Lalor -----> https://www.codesports.com.au/crick...r/news-story/3f9b408d2d9cb91264182d667d1c5631

Reckon Jhye is very stiff and not happy he's been dropped. Good luck to Scott making his debut!

Boxing Day is a tradition at my place, I used to go every year now I sit on the couch all day and enjoy.
Jhye has a lower leg injury, so wasn't considered.

Rory Burns' chances of winning the Allan Border Medal have taken a hit, after he was dropped. And in further good news for the Aussies, Jos Buttler retains his place behind the stumps......
