Yet some of the misses in slips and by keepers are terrible.

Looks like in the 24 years since we've last played in Pakistan they have not learnt a single thing about how to curate a cricket pitch. The previous one was a road and this one is an absolute dog's breakfast. The test is not five overs old and there is variable bounce, a little movement off the seam and the outfield is surprisingly slow.

We can only hope that we have the best of conditions.

That 100 competition they started last year was stupid - as you said, red ball cricket means nothing in England right now, and they're paying for it. Competent Test players in England are about as rare as Warriors flags .

One of the great examples of optimism is seeing an English batsman with sunscreen on his nose .

The lead is now over100 courtesy of Green, Carey and a late fun knockaround from the Skipper. Terrific knock from Uber Koala as well. Any more runs will be a bonus.

Galle is in such a spectacular but vulnerable location. The ground was destroyed not long ago. Warnie and MuMu did a wonderful job in raising money for both aid for people in the region and the rebuilding of the ground.

Warnie may have been a nob, but he was our nob. Watching this Test makes me sad and happy at the same time.

Carey is starting to have a knack of getting them when we need them.

Green is a very exciting prospect. He looks a million bucks with bat and ball. Starting to get a few results to back up the obvious talent.

Carey reminds me of early Kim Hughes who would get to the 40s, do all the hard work then throw his wicket away by having a rush of blood.

Which is far more acceptable as a keeper, but agreed.
He seems to get out, just after he has done enough. This is both great and frustrating.

Im a Carey fan, mostly because when he was on the cusp of the national team (the year he broke the shield dismissal record), Kevin Sheedy at a function I was at (he did a million in the first 3 years of the Giants) talked about him.
He said that not taking Carey through to the AFL years ranks as one of the hardest things he had done because he was such a galvanizing person in very trying times in that pre-afl era, he said that Carey may be the best leader of men he had seen for his age, and maybe even forgetting his age. Was a huge wrap in my mind. He talked about how they were trying to find a way to put him, but in the heart of hearts they knew he was just sort of the standard.
Sheedy said if he makes the Australian team pencil him to be straight to the leadership group and he'll probably get to captain them. That kind of happened in the short stuff anyway.
