Could u just picture on draft day essendon dont choose to go with Bryce Gibbs and Carlton ( Supposing the ladder stays as it is ) Pick him up with Pick 2 , could you imagine our midfield then .. Bryce Gibbs , Marc Murphy , Nick Stevens, Heath Scotland, Andrew Walker, Kade Simpson, Adam Bentick and with little runs in the midfield with Eddie Betts and Andrew Carrazzo , also i havnt mentioned Jordan Russell or Luke Blackwell who have shown a fair bit.

If this does happen the only bad thing i believe would be our defence  .. isnt that right ? .. Hopefully Dennis can give Hartlette a go sometime this year to see how he goes =]

Was watching Vic Metro Vs Sa .. and Bryce Gibbs is a ball magnet and if essendon Dont take him at pick 1 , then i think carlton should take him straight away .. we would have a very very good Midfield if he was on our team . The last couple of weeks we have been losing by 10 points in both games we were capable of winning it just feels like we are lacking something , i think that something is a player like bryce gibbs to give us more depth and some more run in the midfield , its like having another Marc Murphy in your team .

ur rite it would be an awesome midfield. In two or three years time our rotation would be: Gibbs, Murphy, Blackwell, Walker, Stevens, Russell and Bentick. Makes ur mouth water. Perfect combination of Speed, Skill, toughness and leadership.

However as much as id love Gibbs, Realistically i believe he will be taken and will get a suitable replace in Hansen.

But think of it this way, if we take Hansen, our midfield may look like Collard, Murphy, Blackwell, Walker, Stevens, Russell and Bentick. Not too shabby!

I think the Ruck poses a slight problem too!

I agree we need a good ruckman, but the thing is good ruckman rarely go as high draft picks. If you look at the top ruckman, not many of them are top picks, especially top 10. This would seem to indicate the picking of good ruckman is a bit of guess work.

You might get a Hudson from the Crows or a Mott from us, both taken close in the draft.

After watching the championships on the weekend, i'd go with these players so far with our picks

2 - Hansen
18 - Pettard or O'Brien
20 - Renouf

This gives us a great KPP in Hansen, a good solid midfielder in either Pettard or O'Brien and a devloping ruckman in Renouf.

The remaining picks should go on best available talent.

Hansen or Gibbs, we can't loose either way. I like Gumbleton too, but he is a Kennedy clone.

Renouf looked OK, but not sold on him yet. I'd like to pick up another runner at that slot and look to attract a young uncontracted ruckman to the club via the pre-season draft.

Meeson, Maric, Wood, or Fabian De Luca I believe are all out of contract.

Essendon won't be after one as they already have Hille, Laycock & Ryder, so there is no danger of them grabbing one before us pre-season.

I want us to save the preseason pick for a midfielder, just about to hit his straps, badly coached, and out of contract.

I agree, the possibility of adding Gibbs to our midfield is very exciting.

BUT, I still think that Essendon will finish below us, and they will take Gibbs. I think we will take Hansen at number 2, and Brock O'Brien as our second rounder. If we are still eligible for a priority pick at the end of the first round, which I thinnk we still are (can someone confirm?), we shoukd pick up Albert Proud. The prospect of injecting the pace and skill of both O'Brien AND Proud is a mouthwatering one.

However, this does not solve our ruck problems. For the bigger draft gurus out there, are there any ruckmen that may be available for our 3rd, or if we take a F/S, 4th round pick? I know about Leurenberger and Renouf-I hae seen them both play quite a few times, but I highly doubt that they will still be around at this stage of the draft-they will probably go at the end of the first or beginning of the 2nd round.

We may not have to worry about who essendon chooses, we have brisbane at the gabba this week whilst the dons have the kangaroos. Either way we should be playing essendon for the bryce gibbs cup later in the year.

By the way to contradict myself i believe we can beat brisbane at the gabba this week and i would also prefer us to win more games, also see the point of gibbs being a south australian and possibility of him going back to sa.

this is the only risky thing i really hope carlton can pick him up despite needing a defender or a ruckman. He is just too good to pass up , one question for everyone , if carlton are at the bottom of the ladder at seasons end , would u pick bryce gibbs with pick 1 or would u go for Hansan ?

Either way the club has a win, Yes we need a backman but we have Bower who i think will be good, ruck is a problem but if we take a midfielder(gibbs) we will be happy or a backman like hanson would be needed more than a ruckman at the moment. So either way we are getting someone we need.
