in the end our position reflects the season we had. We have a long way to go. Winning and finishing ninth would not have justified our season as we are nowhere near the best team outside the eight. thoughts???

At the start of the year I thought 8-10 wins would be a good result. I reckon our season rates 7/10

anything from 9th to 12th is fitting...we're on the same level as the other teams just outside the eight and a couple on the inside

st kilda - draw
sydney - 1 win, 1 loss
essendon - 1 win, 1 loss
north - 1 win, 1 loss
bulldogs - loss
melbourne - 1 win, 1 loss

we're right there with all those teams and will hopefully pass more than a few next season..we also have to put up a fight against the top 5..all of them belted us..we need to bring those down to 5 goals or less and maybe even steal one or two

I don't think we should be too fussed about where we finished, silly mistakes cost us a few games along the way but we just haven't got the talent as yet. Freo would be the only side in the bottom half that has excuse to be finishing where they did, the rest are no better or worse than us and I wouldn't think they will be improving any more next year apart from GC.

North finished 9th. We split our games with them. I think we are very close to the best team outside the eight. Yes, we have a long way to go.

Yeah we are no where near North who finished 9th. They smashed us FFS

North play every game like its their last .

We sacrificed wins in the name of development ... we are closer than what some people would think .

Whilst i'm bitterly disappointed with that 6 week lapse after the dreamtime win , Hardwick did do a good job to get us going again .

Overall a satisfactory season .

Given Sydney and Essendon are playing finals i see no reason we cant next year if we get the list management and training right this summer

about the only justification a loss like this provides is it seriously underlines the worth or lack of from regulars such as Jackson and graham...between these two "wastes of space" they single handedly gifted the 4 points. if nothing else this result put a line through them both and ensures we dont too carried away with ourselves

Bingo. If Blair witch project has done his job, we supplement the list with a couple more mature players, draft some more kids, and bang.

It's a good loss in some ways, nothing to do with the players, but the supporters and expectations. This is how much we have improved, 9th would have looked way too flattering, we haven't been good enough to finish 9th.

I agree, personally I think we are pretty much on track, but where we finished is about right at the moment, there really is some promise in our side at the moment, but still a lot of work to do.

This is spot on.

Add a fit Moore, a quality Ruckman and natural development and we are there abouts with the teams taking up 6th-8th IMO.

Yep honestly, it would have been nice to make finals, but we finished where we deserved. I'm not happy about not making the 8, but I'm content with where we are at and am confident we are moving forward. Continuing the upward trend we should be aiming for 12 wins and 8th spot next year.

We didn't make finals this year and we weren't really expected too, next year however, if we miss the 8, or at the very least don't improve on our 8 wins and a draw, questions will have to be asked.

We did well. Would have beaten Port and Gold Coast at the G I'm sure. 50% win/loss ratio is probably where we're at right now without selling games. Get a ruckman and a good young midfielder, cleanout a few players and Bob's your uncle bitch :D

I can see Post improving next year similar to how Rance did this year. Helbig and Webberley should be regulars in the 22. I'd be happy with Hampson if we can't get a Z Clarke type. Reckon our list will be quite good in 2012. Reckon Miller will get another year, but will probably finish after the 2012 season with Tuck and Moore

On the money young man! Add to that that we got through the game with no major injuries to spoil the pre-season.

we definately need to stiffen the coaching group with some experience. Our attack is quite good but gee, what on earth was happening with Norths coast to coast goals catching us off side. I can understand it happening once, but heck it was at least 4 or 5 times, and how much did we lose by:rolleyes:. we had 18 more i50's, more contested ball, less clangers and still lose...go figure:o...we need to be far more accountable in our defensive efforts and much better prepared for the opposition...we look to be clueless in this department too often

Have to say I didnt find this year satisfactory. Im not talking analysis wise, but rather how it felt this year.

There were good signs to suggest that next year might but as far as a season of football, we started too slow, made some ground and then lost our season too early. Some shockers of defeats (Gold Coast,Port Adelaide,Carlton,Hawthorn,Geelong) and not enough exciting wins.

Dreamtime game was the best highlight followed by Fremantle win.

I really need something to happen next year but like yourself, I believe it can.

I agree with all the players you have mentioned except Gourdis.

Poor bloke was in the coburg best more than any player the last 2 years yet still not given enough games due to charity games to mguane an some cases Thursty.

I believe he still has alot of improvment in him and could develop into a regular player or a better depth player than thursty or mguane at the worst. Has the height, weight, speed, leap to match it with any player in the league.

The player you have forgotten to include in the delist is westhoff

Coast to coast .... Adelaide did it for the entire first half the previous week and teams have done it all year against us. We are a generally efficient team .. rarely gain more possissions than the oppposition but use it quite well and generally kick straight to keep us in games. Sydney in Sydney was an example. We were in it til the end due to good kicking, but the Swans dominated play!

I inked us in for 8-9 wins and think we got to where I thought we would. Inked in wins against the Gold Coast and Port, but didn't count on a win over Freo and the draw against the Saints, but thought we'd go 1-1 against Essendon and the Kangas and did.

Still going to be tough to play finals next year, you'd imagine. I assume the Dogs and Freo will make the 8 next year, and with Essendon and Sydney in there and probably the two most likely to drop out, I'm not sure we can be better than both of them plus Freo or the Bulldogs.

But anyway, I think 9th would have been a bit too high. We finished where we belong.

need more than that. we need to educate the kids better and get better coaches.

No argument here mate, clearances and centre bounces especially, it was atrocious for most of the season and not all of it was due to a ruck definciency. I think if anything the coaching staff, i.e. the assistants and specialists need to be a bit more transparent and accountable to the membership too. Hardwick does it well with eth generalist stuff but I personally want to know more from the assistants given they are teh ones developing and implementing strategies. I know some of that is confidential obviously but even after the fact info would be good.

We're still pretty low spenders. Some more specialists coming in would be good. Im surprised we never sounded out Ben Cousins to help with the midfield. All they ever talked about was how much he could teach the youngsters on the list. Either it was just a bit of fluff for the newspaper or he could actually coach.

I completely agree with this list, apart from Gourdis although for some reason I
still think Graham needs to be kept for at least 1-2 years and see if he takes the game on. I don't know why I think this way just a feeling I have.
