Shame really as although I never liked her, she had a very interesting game and her matches always seemed to be some of the highest quality around.

Justine Henin has retired from tennis due to an elbow injury, a spokeswoman said today.

A statement on Henin's website said: "I spent the last days undergoing various medical tests and they have confirmed that my elbow has been damaged by my adventure in Australia. I have rarely been spared from the pain, those last months were very hard... my elbow is too fragile and hurt... Having followed the advice of doctors it is now clear and I accept that here my career ends."

Agreed. Her match against Clijsters in Brisbane was epic. Add to the fact she made the final in the AO last year, showed us how good she was.
