How bloody good is this guy? Murphy and Kennedy aside, no Carlton player excites me more than Simmo. He just runs and runs, puts his body on the line all the time and is also one of our most creative players when he gets the ball. He also regularly hits targets by foot, which for us is a miracle. If he continues his current rate of improvement I can see Kade being one of the elite AFL midfielders/wingmen in 2-3 years time. I'd say he would be in the top five for our best and fairest this year as well. What are your thoughts on Kade?

One of my favorites for sure. Early last year, I thought he was done and wouldn't make it, but his form since mid 05 has been great. Fast, loves to play on, can kick a goal from the midfield (kicked 6 goals in 2 weeks, would love to see him kick a few more). One of the few great kicks in our side. He's definetly got a future, and he proves that not all players are AFL ready in their first season. Glad we kept him, and he has definetly been one of our best. Might not get 25 touches a game (yet), but his 17-18 games are very good, because he's so damaging with the ball and rarely wastes it. And now that he's getting 20+ touches a game consistently, the future is looking good for him. I agree, he could be an elite midfielder in the next couple years. And to think that we got him at pick 45, what a bargain.

He is my favourite player, and has been since he was drafted. I stuck by him even when times were pretty tough, and am reaping the rewards.

He has it all: pace, exquisite skills, and a footy brain. What a sight to see-Simmo running down a wing and delivering it perfectly lace out to the forwards. We have seen it a few times, and I'm sure we will see it plenty more times. At first, I was a little skeptical about him playing in the back half, but now I am all for it-I think it has taught him another side to his game-defending and how to be accountable for your own man.

Kade Simpson is testament to the long term project player. Originally, he was touted as a first round draft picks, but clubs shied away from him due to his ridiculously light frame. Eventually the Blues took the punt, and the rest, as they say, is history. Took a while to get into it, had a shocking first few games, but always dominated in the VFL. I am so glad we persevered with him, as we are just getting our reward.

Also, it is really great to see that he is part of out leadership group. Has definite leadership qualities, and I see him as a future captain of the Carlton Football Club. Maybe not next season, that is for Lance and/or Fev, but after that, why not? I'm all for giving a young gun the captaincy.

When he was drafted, I was very very happy. I boldly stated, to many's disbelief, that Kade Simpson will win the Brownlow in 2009. I have stuck by it, and I think he can become a premier midfielder in the comp in the next few years. Oh how sweet it will be if my prediction comes true.

I have really been pleased and impressed with Kade and his development. Not surprised by it, as I knew from the day he walked into the footy club that he will make a difference, it was only a matter of time. Blues fans, we have an absolute gem on our hands in Simmo! Our performances have not been great, but surely it must bring a smile to the face of each and every supporter when they see a young gun like Kade streaming down the wing, ball tucked under the arm. I know it gets me excited!

GO BLUES!!!

Before I read your post, I was going to reply that it wouldn't surprise me if Simpson won a Brownlow.

He is the only player in our current 22 that plays on at any chance, and I love him taking risks, and when they pay off, it is absolute mint.

Almost makes me glad we didn't get no 1 & 2 in 2002. We may not have got Simpson at 45 (or Fisher at 72 for that fact) due to a different mindset of drafting. I'm sure he'll end up better than the no.1 that year, Goddard.

Probably right Jim. Fisher and Simpson look like being every bit as good as Goddard and Wells. The only drawback is that we had to wait for longer for them to have as much impact due to their physical development. So losing those draft picks hurt a little initially but in the years to come they won't hurt at all.

No way would we be taking Fisher at pick 72 if we had kept picks 1, 2 and 31. No way would be have taken Simmo if we had have got Goddard at pick 1 IMO. The best part about these guys is that because they were taken later in the draft, they don't have the same weight of expectation that is like an anchor around players like Andrew Walker.

Simmo is by far the player I prefer to watch aside from Fev at the moment.

I would now rate him as easily a top 5 player on our list and for me he is definately the most exciting to watch. He backs himself, uses his pace and passes beautifully. Seeing him run down the flank and slot home the goal from an angle sent shivers down my spine! Who knows how good he could become! :)

Fair call Jeremias and ive jumped on the Simpson bandwagon and love the way he goes about his footy. But how could your favourite player in 03,04 be someone who played about 3 games and got no touches? Surely favourites back then woulda been kouta, ratten, mckay?

The way Simpson plays brings a tear to the eye and chokes me up when he takes opposition players on front on and gets around them with his pace.I think his strong grip in overhead marks deserves a mention as well.A while back there was young group of players,Blake Campbell,Simpson and I forget the other, but they were all going nowhere fast. When the other 2 got delisted I was a bit shocked that Simpson didnt as well.Im so bloody glad he didnt.

Certainly is a great little player and IMO, he almost gets better every week. It just goes to show that, when we are patient with our kids, that they do develop into good players.

Out of contract at years end, so hopefully we don't have too many issues keeping him at the club.

I wonder who my fav player is ;)

I love his willingness to run and take on the opposition, he courage when backing it not packs, and his ability to lay a solid tackle.

A complete package! Does anyone thing that he might captain or vice captain the club in the future?

Would be nice if we heard that he has signed up for a couple of years in the not to distant future.

Didn't he get a two year contract last year? Or was that Waite?

He should be given a 3 year contract ASAP. This guy is our future!

not only that, but he gets up to full speed right away (Walker is starting to do this too). Many of our other players are thinking what to do instead of taking off, making space and then thinking of what to do.

love the way Simpson plays and I'm looking forward to seeing many more years of his dash.

edit: I was a naysayer against Simpsons because of his lack of genuine pace, but he has proved me wrong.
