This is the last year of his 2 yr contract. I worry about the "go home factor", if he is continually dismissed from getting a game. From all accounts he played a very good game in the VFL for ther Bullants against Collingwood, having had over 30 posssessions, and should have been promoted this week because of his enthusiasm, pace and run which will be required to counteract ther Bombers?

I rate Simpson as our second or third best player. Very underrated player who always busts his gut. Rewind back to 2007 to see how much this guy cared when the team was falling apart around him, nobody else apparently giving a stuff.

Lucas will be good but at this stage I'll err on the side of caution and say he won't better Simpson. Simpson mightn't be the greatest kick (hardly poor) but what he has in spades is heart and courage. More so than just about any other player on our list.

Simpson is a good player and all, but can't agree with second or third best player. Yes, has courage and and heart, but has too many off games to be ranked that highly. Don't get me wrong, he's a great player for us and well entrenched in our best 22, its just i can't see him being THAT important to us.

I thought he was our second best player last year behind Judd. No issues with his consistency.

Of course, an in form Murphy, Gibbs, Waite etc. would be ahead but on last year's form, who else was better bar Judd?

Totally agree with this. Simmo, I love. He isn't in the top 3 though, and has struggled to start this year. We NEED him to start finding his straps.

I'd say a fair assessment is easily in our top 10 when he is up and about. Pretty easy to name Judd, JR, MK, Murphy, Waite above him, and then probably a few guys around the same level; i.e. Jammo, Bower, Gibbs. New comers Curnow, Hendo and relative newcomer Warnock are knocking down the door as well.

All opinion of course.

I do love seeing him slot goals on the run from deep in the pocket!!!

Didnt get Simmo get dropped for a few games last year or the year before because he was in a slump? I am pretty certain that it was him and hoops that got sent back to the Ants... and they really ripped it up

Give Lucas another 20-30 games and he should have his confidence sorted and should have picked up the pace of the game by then. Remember that at this point he has only played less than 10 games and spent most of last year out injured.

I'm pretty sure you're thinking of Carrazzo.

Simpson has played 123 consecutive games and hasn't been close to being dropped for years. 2010 was probably his most consistent year.
