Last night I watched some of the 2004 Season Highlights DVD just because. One of the things which stood out the most to me was the form of Kane Tenace. There Kane was - kicking long goals, setting up goals, going for long runs through the midfield and breaking tackles (he took on - and beat - Andrew McLeod in one game). The commentators during these games kept referring to him as "Geelong's next superstar" and "the great young gun."
What has happened to him? If I was selecting the senior team these days he wouldn't be an automatic selection at all. It's obvious from what I saw on the DVD that his foot skills have diminished somewhat - the amount of times I've seen him kick out on the full/straight to an opposition player over the past two years are too many to remember.
The DVD has me convinced that there is a lot of talent there but unfortunately we have not seen much of it since then - which, as you know, was our most successful season for a long time.
