Last night I watched some of the 2004 Season Highlights DVD just because. One of the things which stood out the most to me was the form of Kane Tenace. There Kane was - kicking long goals, setting up goals, going for long runs through the midfield and breaking tackles (he took on - and beat - Andrew McLeod in one game). The commentators during these games kept referring to him as "Geelong's next superstar" and "the great young gun."

What has happened to him? If I was selecting the senior team these days he wouldn't be an automatic selection at all. It's obvious from what I saw on the DVD that his foot skills have diminished somewhat - the amount of times I've seen him kick out on the full/straight to an opposition player over the past two years are too many to remember.

The DVD has me convinced that there is a lot of talent there but unfortunately we have not seen much of it since then - which, as you know, was our most successful season for a long time.

Good statement, although I still think he's been a bit stiff at the selection table - picked one week, dropped the next, and not always warranted. Certainly last year he was far from alone in displaying poor form. The reports from the first intra-club game was that he was BOG or very close to, unfortunately he did his hamstring afterwards. Once he gets over his hamstring (which should be very soon), hopefully then he can finally take the next step. I still think he could be a major asset to the team.

hope ur right bud. i like kane and always thought there was something there. the question we should ask is what made him take 2 steps back over the previous 2 years. hes picked up bulk and seems to have gained abit more samina could it be that clubs are aware of what hes capable of hence the surprise factor is gone?

Competition should be hotter this year - so the answer for me is yes, but only if both are in very good form!
No return to the seniors unless busting up opposition midfields in the VFL

i think you will find that he done his ankle!

Yeah good points about Tenace. Is there room for both him and Byrnes in the side?
I don't think so, not at all. In fact, I'd even put Stokes in that group too - as far as I'm concerned, we should only be playing ONE of Stokes, Byrnes and Tenace at one time and clearly Stokes is light years ahead of the others at this point in time (a bit of a worry, since this is only his second year in the AFL system).
