I hope we are not trying to remove the word 'Kangaroos" from our vocabulary.
There are a few people in here the minute the word 'Kangaroos' is mentioned there must be a conspiracy against our club.

We are the ‘Nth Melbourne Kangaroos

The last few years has made it a bit dirty.

Saying Kangaroos always felt wrong somehow, a bit like referring to yourself only by your surname.

Its that Aussie tradition of lengthening short names & shortening long names.

While I can often be heard at the footy roaring out kangas, roos, rooboys along with shinboners and North, I can honestly say I have never referred to us as Kangaroos.

So no its not a dirty word, just temporarily shop soiled.

Yes we are the Nth Melbourne Kangaroos, but yeah I always refer to it as Roos!!

Hence my number plate below...

That could be worth something by the end of September ;)

In response to the thread, I don't mind "The Kangaroos" and of course "North Melbourne", it is "Kangaroos" (as though it is a place name) that gets to me.

Eg: "Next week Essendon are playing North Melbourne" :)
"Next week Essendon are playing The Kangaroos" :)
"Next week Essendon are playing Kangaroos"

there was a conspiracy against our club. and if evil had prevailed eventually the "kangaroos" too might have been removed, or forgotten, in place of whatever it was a GC team would be called.
North Melbourne Football Club is our name, North Melbourne is our home and the kangaroos can be part of our name, is our nickname, our mascot etc. but we are not the kangaroos football club

I won't eat kangaroos, and I won't shoot them either.

Personally i was overseas from 92 to 99 .By the time we came back and I rekindeld my affection we were the Kangaroos !
I always took it that they were preparing us for a move, for in a move we would still be the kangaroos .(please take a deep breath and forget the rage)
Does seem the by product of North Melbourne being committted to Melbourne is the tarnishing of the tag kangaroos!!
I think we are at a period of time whereby we will shy away from being marketed as the kangaroos !!

But in the heat of the game I know I'll rise from my seat and punch the air yelling "Go Kangas!"

same same, tho a year behind, 93 to 2000. not tarnished, just put back in its rightful place and to be used accordingly. we are North Melbourne. 'go kangas' is a wonderful exclamation to be used frequently, often and loudly in all public domains :thumbsu:

It's North Melbourne for me. I was pissed off when it was changed to just the Kangaroos.

agree with that.
Pissed when it was changed to just Kangaroos.
Its North Melbourne, and our logo/mascot is the Kangaroo

I think the Kangaroos symbolises the conspiracy of certain individuals desire to move us out of melbourne.

We are the NMFC with the kangaroo as the clubs mascot like the magpie is to collingwood.

No - kangaroos was one in a series of attempts by the club to broaden appeal beyond traditional supporter groups. It was based on market research. It failed. It's changing back. Simple as that.

Ahh, focus groups. They can be blamed for everything.
