A goosey is basically a pause and leg stride change so if he does that he will get run down from behind

I've stated pretty clearly that I think Hunt is an AFL marketing novelty and his on field performances back that up (his effort in the first minute of the second quarter in the Adelaide game illustrates my point). If he develops into a good footballer, I'll be the first to acknowledge it, but chances of this happening are extremely remote.

Who says I don't have an opinion? I've expressed my opinion many times. For somebody who knows so little about the game, he's doing bloody well, and can only get better. How much better is a mystery, but judging him on his current performances and not thinking he's a damn good chance of improving is absolutely stupid.

Julia Gillard isn't holding down full back for an Australian Rules football side. If Gillard was playing as well as Hunt is playing, then yeah, she'd have much more upside, but she's not, because she's not nearly as good an athlete as Hunt is.

And I'm not ignoring other attributes of potential at all. I have said many times that there are other aspects in which Toy has more upside than Hunt.

So your opinion is that he can only get better - at least we agree on that. I'm taking the bold step of extending this into an actual opinion about his future prospects (bleak).

You haven't been reading my posts at all, have you? Look back and you'll see that I've been talking about one specific aspect of his potential, while repeatedly stating that Toy (and other players) have more potential in other respects. The problem I had was not with you saying that Toy had more upside than Hunt, but the reason you gave, which was that Toy knew the game better (which is by definition a limitation to upside).

After seeing Hunt in the flesh for the first time this week I don't really know what all the fuss is about.

He played like any player would when your team is getting overrun. I still reckon he should be in the forward 50 but he isn't as bad as some people would like to make him out to be.

I reckon he'll make it as an AFL player....just not a $1m pa AFL footballer.

If he was any other player he'd be getting ripped to pieces. I can think of Tom Hawkins, Josh Hunt and Andrew Mackie at Geelong, Tom Murphy was one at Hawthorn, and plenty of players at every single club who cop it regularly from their own supporters.

This guy is worse, far worse, is getting paid far more money, but apparently because he's learning (translation = is shit) no one is allowed to criticise him. The reality that he is in fact very ordinary is conveniently ignored.

I was impressed by his ability to fall over while Dangerfield outmarked him and then watch him stroll in and kick the goal unassisted. Showed great qualities. I bet Dangerfield has never taken imaginary speccies in Paris.

What on earth makes you say that? I'm talking about Hunt's potential at AFL level, not whether he should be selected right now. Potential for improvement is not the only basis for selection, not by a long shot. Also, as I've said many times, I was referring to one specific area in which he has great scope for improvement, not his overall scope for improvement.
 
Even his biggest supporters must concede Hunt is currently in the bottom 10% of AFL players who are getting a regular game, which isn't unexpected. What is a reasonable time frame for him to break out of that bracket?

if hes not good enough (which he isnt) he shouldnt be playing....... this dud is one of the highest paid players in the league

****ing huge effort from Hunt though, he has way exceeded my expectations so far. The easiest position to play with limited experience would be ruck imo, See Stynes, the Swans Mike Pyke etc, Hunts position would be very difficult to step into and excel, good luck to him I have nothing but admiration for his effort. Issy Foloau should be working at playing ruck, at 195 and his leap it would be his best chance to make it and he would go past Hunt.

Mike Pyke also came to the Swans at 24, so I am not sure why anybody is claiming Hunt is too old.

Agree on Issy. Will make it either in defence or could ruck as you say. He could be trained as a defender who pinch hits in the ruck when main ruck is resting. Certainly a place for this in the modern game, all teams have their version of it.

Hunt's pay is irrelevant, if he was being paid 100k by GC and paid 1Mil by the AFL for promotional purposes it would be a more realistic expectation of what is expected.

Hunt this year can be written off as a development year, lets face it GC arn't going to win many game anyway.

Judgement is best reserved for 2 years time, he'll make it to the level of being an average player.

Anyone expecting him to be better than he currently is simply had their expectations too high.

As long as GC is happy with his output then what anyone else thinks doesn't really matter.

Exactly. The best comparison is Pyke. When Pyke was first on the scene, he was useless around the ground, and a passable tap ruckman. He wasn't really AFL standard. Hunt is at a similar stage: he's useless around the ground, but is a passable spoiler. Last year, Pyke was passably AFL standard, but not great. This year, he's considered better than Premiership ruckman Mark Seaby, and is still improving.

Now, if Hunt follows a similar trajectory, and is better than a Premiership full-back/back pocket in 2 years, I'd say the experiment has been a success.
