clayton kebab house (probably the best)

Concur. Easily the best from around this area. Had mixed results just down the road at Braeside Kebab on Boundary rd, during the day the quality of the salads seems to be a lot better, after midnight there is a different woman working there and things get a bit average.

whats everones opinion on the places that put the chips inside the kabab? I am not a fan. But do enjoy when the kebab is given a light toasting so that it stays together nicely

People continuously get kebabs and souvas mixed up!

Souvas = real meat and delicious!

Kebab = slab of weird looking shit, shaved and served. Disgusting!

Souvas>>>>Kebabs

They do that in Greece with those Yiros things they sell everywhere there. I was a fan, I virtually lived on them when I was there.

Never had chips put in kebabs here though.

Is it possible to buy garlic sauce in bottles, similar to the ones they use at kebab joints?

Masterfood's make a good one, Safeway have their own one which isn't too bad. Surely you can just ask your local kebab shop to order one in for you if you front up the cash?

Fair enough. Didn't think that sounded right. I'll have to give it a go.

You should - homemade tastes better (you can adjust to exactly what you like) and you can make litres of the stuff for only a couple of dollars.

You can go the simpler greek style (basically tzatziki) but I recommend the Middle-Eastern ones as a pinchof the right spices/herbs adds so much. Plenty of online recipes

2 pro tips;
1. Roast the garlic first - OK so only do this for like 5 minutes max (otherwise you'll lose all flavour) but a quick bit of mild heat really releases a richer tastier flavour in the garlic.
2. Youghurt varies in 'tanginess' so depending on the brand, you can get quite a different tasting garlic sauce with exactly the same recipe. I prefer the less tangy myself cos I prefer a blank canvas to create exactly the flavour I want. 'Greek' yoghurt tends to be tangier as a rule than 'natural' yoghurt.

If you're rating a kebab with anything but "shit" or "shit hot," then you're not in the right kebab eating state. The less you can actually taste it, the better the kebab eating environment. I might grab one tonight, does anyone know if these joints generally shut earlier on weekdays?

Also, garlic mayo is awesome. Can't have much of it though like on a kebab. A little bit on a burger or something is great though.

Ahhh..that's what I like to hear! When I was in the industry, hated having to call it aeloi with a garlic and <whatever> infusion. F sakes, all I did was mix some garlic into some home brand mayo - no need to make it sound like I painted the Sistine Chapel!

Very late every night. Say what you want about kebab shop owners, they know their market.

This place on Smith St is the best ever. Seriously, $5.95 doners and they constantly kill it. It's across from 'Fitzroy kebabs.' You struggle to knock them off after a night on the lagers, too – which is always a better sign than being able to smash two or three more.

Favourite was Ed's Food Hut in the CBD. Gone due to redevelopment. If they're offering cheap manufactured meat (a lot of the caravans do), I'll eat it but not rate it. Ed always had quality meat, nice rice, fresh salads and great dips.

Open souvlaki from Captain Gumbys in Doncaster East is great. Big serve too.

Ok Christos

Ararat Kebabs in Broadway/Nedlands is good, though I usually end up buying one of their Pide's. I prefer that and Gozleme to Kebabs tbh.

Been eating from Katik religiously for months now.

Huge size and delicious for only $5.50, I get 2 of them since I'm a big eater.
