Here are a few of my round one match ups for the dangerous roo players

1) Daniel Wells:I think that Rhyce Shaw is nearly the perfect match up for wells. He has the pace and endurance to go with him. If that fails Licca and possibly Ben Johnson.
2) Brent Harvey: ALWAYS plays well against us!!! Mick needs to get this right. I'm thinking maybe heath shaw or lockyer when harvey is forward. When he is in the midfiels i think licca is the man for the job.
3) Shannon Grant: Heath Shaw/ Tarks. i know you all think Tarkyn is a bad backman, but we have nobody else unless Sammy Isles plays.
4) Aaron Edwards: He is there only tall goal kicking option so get Presti to dispose of him.
Give me your thoughts and any other pivotal matchups

Corey Jones will need to be looked after. I wouldn't be surprised if Lonie got that gig.

They have a couple of young sneaky forward now that will need to be looked after.

Im not sure exactly how fast you think Paul Licuria is.
By the way, you're forgetting Lonie can play on half these smalls and kill em.

Thanks didaka great point. I reckon Jones is really underatted and must be shut down. Lonie should get first crack but if he is up the creek put we must sacrifice clement. Also those young forwards like lindsay thomas could be looked after by tarks of heater

This time next week, its game on!!

CANT WAIT!

I still think Presti will get Edwards as he is deceptively quick and could handle Edwards quite easily. Maxwell gets Hale, and Maybe Clement does go to Jones. Time will tell.

Don't be surprised if they use young Lachlan Hansen as a forward first up. Thats gives Clement his man if Lonie plays on Jones.

Totally agree. I'd even be suprised if Licca gets a game. The game has passed him by. He's too slow and when a team floods back and pinpoint passes are needed, Licca doesn't have the skill level to do it.

I don't:thumbsu:

No point wasting Clement on Edwards. Edwards is a goalsquare lead and mark FF. Presti would have him covered quite easily. Maxwell gave Hale a touch up last year, so that will be revisited.

Clement to take Grant. Jones will ostensibly play CHF and is now very vital to our ability to kick scores. Clement an option there. Jones would maul Lonie.

Wells needs either needs a hard tag or someone who can play on him but also win their own footy and hurt us. Harvey has a great record against Collingwood as mentioned and between he and Wells you have probably 50 hard running posessions that damage.

From our POV, Petrie will take Rocca. Pratt on Medhurst or Davis. Licuria belts us, so Simpson will mind him. Wouldn't be surprised if Rawlings locks down on H Shaw.

H.Shaw being tagged? That will be a first.
Nah - He got tagged against Carlton in Rd 21 last year by Carrazzo, who did a pretty good job of it, although they could probably have used Carrazzo to stop Swan, Didak or Licuria from tearing them a new one.

Of course, that was coming off Shaw's 33 possession, 11 mark effort against Port the week before.

The Kangaroos forward line might be problematic for us, because it promises to be small and quick, which we might have problems defending. However, it also promises to have little overhead marking ability, which should work to our advantage.

You believe they will take Presti and Wakelin into a game where they have only one forward over 190cm???
Yes, because Presti will play on Aaron Edwards.

Yes and Maxwell takes Hale. So who does Wakelin match-up on?

IMO, Shannan Grant will be the Kangas go-to forward this year. Look out for a huge season from him, almost Brad Johnson-esque. And he has the skill to pull it off too! Go with Clement on Grant, Lonie on Jones, Presti on Edwards, Maxwell on Hale and Lockyer on Thomas. Josh Fraser might be able to fill a hole in your D50 this game coz McIntosh won't hurt you too much around the ground. It all depends on Whether Malthouse will want to use Fraser forward or not.

Where will Leigh Brown play ? Forward or back ? This could also determine the Collingwood structure.

He shouldn't play at all. Rubbish footballer. He will though. Probably back, taking a resting Fraser or maybe Rocca so Petrie can take Cloke.

Collingwood will spend all of 10 seconds thinking about him.

Just a non-entity.

Agree with all those match-ups. Disagree that Hamish won't hurt when we have the ball. Is ready to become a genuinely good ruckman, links well and can mark the footy very well. Knows his way forward.

I would play Fraser forward as much as possible, as we struggle for tall defenders. But if that means trusting Richards with ruck duty, it might be too big a gamble.
