I'm having trouble with my wireless keyboard (Microsoft). When I come to the login window (Windows XP), my keyboard would cease to work. I logged in using a guest account, but my keyboard would still cease to work. I'm currently running in Safe Mode with Networking.

I have four machines that all use microsoft wireless keyboards. All four stopped within a day of each other.

Having been purchased at the same time, I thought it was an amazing coincidential battery megadeath, and replaced them all. None work.

Given the timing, I'm almost certain the last security update canned them, but email contact to Microsoft is about as effective as a Judd disposal, and google searches haven't really helped yet.

I've been using this keyboard for well over a year now, and I've never had such problems in the past.

This keeps popping up in Device Manager: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory.(Code 38)

Microsoft Support (website): Recommended resolution

The driver could not be loaded because a previous instance is still loaded. Restart the computer.

It was not very helpful.

These are the other methods I have tried thus far, but to no avail:

  • Scanned the hard drive with Malwarebytes' Anti Malware
  • Tried to disable then re-enable the keyboard then reboot.
  • Completely uninstalled the keyboard and then reinstalled.

Safe Mode absolutely sucks, I can't get any audio. :(

Add me to that list. But my wireless mouse won't work either. Eh, just a desktop, thank god for laptops. :D

Good luck, let us know if you find a solution.

A new keyboard did the trick, well, it's actually an old keyboard a mate has kindly lent me. :thumbsu:
