Downright embarassing. Today was a f**king joke.

Blokes who can't kick:
Marley
Taylor Adams
Toovey
Ball
Witts
SWAN!!!!
Frost
Kennedy
Lumumba

Blokes who can barely kick:
everyone except pendles, sidebottom, keeffe and seedsman

Absolute disgrace. Most fundamental skill in AFL. Essendon are the 2nd worst in the league, we're the worst, and they looked like Barcelona FC compared to us.

On a side note, I'm starting to think that Taylor Adams career is in the balance if he doesnt learn how to not turn over the ball, its an absolute joke. We're playing afl football. A sport in which you kick the ball and he would be in the middle band of players at my local Division 4. Half my reserves team can kick the ball better than some of our f**king afl players.

Also, Young's AFL career is over as of the moment that he RAN AWAY FROM THE BALL today

DO US A FAVOUR A DRAFT KIDS WHO CAN KICK THE F**KING BALL (and let's not bring up the fact that we have jono marsh, sinclair and freeman to come in, may god have mercy on us all)

Then why put Adams in the Backline when he is not a Great Kick.

He is a Bloody Inside Midfielder who should be getting the Hard-Ball and getting it out to Players like Pendles

cant remember seeing such a badly skilled Collingwood team it was hard to watch skill level has got worse as the year
goes on what was going on in pre season not looking forward to work tomorrow and seeing all the Essendon scumbags

Marley Williams shouldnt be in the cant kick column, his disposal has seriously sharpened up this season, one of our better users of the footy currently, seems he spent a lot of his preseason and his games of earlier this season working on his disposal and the improvement is very noticeable.

Witts is a better user of the footy than the majority of the ruckman in the AFL.

Kennedy has good skills but they havent been shown at AFL level to full effect.

The rest of the players are hard to argue with.

It does make you wonder if Hine underrates kicking ability in his player assessments. The comments around Mason Cox and the fact that they didn't care what his kicking action looked like, because they reckon they can improve his kicking through coaching... well it suggests they either believe that kicking isn't as important as I think it is, that the acceptable "league average" standard of kicking isn't very high, or that our development coaches are better than they are.

Yeah defintely an issue, but is it that we cant kick straight as much as it is we're kicking under too much pressure and kicking to bad contests? How many players are providing an option to kick to? I havent rewatched game yet to analyse, but I suspect this is more about the positions we're putting ourselves into rather than the inability to kick(though it could be partly that too).

On a side note i didnt think this was thread worthy but can marley play midfield. A player that has a gut run and wins his own ball, ferocious on the ground akin to a selwood

One day the hierarchy may focus their efforts on drafting footballers who can kick a ball.

Until that day comes, we need to be content with them drafting athletes instead.

He plays with heart, thats for sure. I wouldnt be against him playing midfield, but definitely not as a tagger like others want. I hope we settle our team soon, we are currently all over the place, injuries are the reason though. We have a few options for half back, half forward and midfield roles that i hope get settled soon.

If the recruiters were to put a line through every international recruit who has a kicking action that looks awkward or dubious, then none of these international blokes would get picked up! Which is a good or a bad thing, depending on who you talk to...

Again though, I draw people's attention to who has been recruited by Hine since Buckley took over. All of Scharenberg, Freeman, Langdon, Kennedy, Broomhead, Ramsay, Dwyer, Martin and Yagmoor are noted (to varying degrees) for their ability by foot. And from the list of recycled players, Young, Russell and Armstrong came with big wraps on their kicking skills.

Everyone recruited by Derek Hine prior to 2011 (that is, between 2004 and 2010) was recruited under a different coach, with different philosophies, whose game-plan did not require players to be skilled by foot for it to work. Those players fitted right in with that way of playing, because the game plan compensated for their butchery. Many of them are now being exposed under the current coach's game style. And even back then, Hine managed to score a couple of beauties who possess class by foot, namely Fasolo and Seedsman (both in 2010, Malthouse's last draft - a foreshadowing of the new regime to come?)

Hine probably rates kicking as much as the next recruiter. One could even argue that since the incumbent coach came in, with his relatively hands-off approach to recruiting, Hine might have even been allowed the creative freedom to put kicking back at the top of his wish list.

The problem doesn't really lay with our recruiters. It lays with a medical/fitness section that can't get these kids fit and playing (or keep them there) and with a coach who gifts the worst offenders a spot in the senior side while dropping the more skilled kids (or making them the sub!)

We either handball is 3 too many times and turn it over or we kick it and we turn it over. I saw Seedsman kick the ball straight into the man corralling him so soft that he was able to mark the ****ing thing.

We are in no mans land atm caught between old and new. With a lack certain talent unavailable re Reid Brown Fas Karny Freeman and the berg making the transition even worse.

I also think Buckley needs to reassess his forward pressure over actual forward talent goal kickers philosophy.

Langdon is a terrible kick..... he gives it too much air and tries to be too cute! At this stage we have the worst skilled team in the league. It is contagious too, Pendlebury delivered a few to cloke which landed a metre in front of him. It is disgusting how bad our skills are. Don't tell me it's coz of the pressure either..... thing that shits me is when we take a mark we don't push back hard on the mark to then deliver...... I understand trying to move the ball on quickly but when you have a bloke minding the mark right in front of you, to get the pill over him you have to give it some air and this is allowing defenders to have a field day cleaning up our $hit!

My brain went straight past anger to dark amusement when that happened. Real Wtf moment.
