looks like the beta will be released for PSN+ users first

dont think that anyone here though...

Any concrete source on this? I recall reading some rumours about it too (I think).

Will be awesome if it is offered though!

EDIT: Only will be awesome if it is an actual decent amount of time before normal PSN or exclusive to PS+ ( by no way I am hoping for you guys to miss out on it though). The thing with the Mafia 2 demo being realeased 24 hours earlier for EU PS+ users is bullsh*t. 24 hours????

WTF! Why even bother?

PSN+ screwing PS3 owners already.
lol wut? A subscription service actually offering exclusive content to those who pay...WHO'D HAVE THUNK IT!?! Oh and exactly how does that differ to XBL as well which has nearly every beta work the same way, in that you have to be a subscriber to play 99% of them due to them being online?

PSN+ is the biggest waste of money.

Sony could've nailed paid subscription but instead we get discounts on PSN games.

HUGE MEH.
What exactly would've ''nailed it"? Cross-game chat? So basically, a telephone service?

I never did understand the fascination with cross game chat.
If you're playing a single player story driven game, why would you want to talk to someone whilst you play?
I can honestly say that if/when it comes in I will barely use it, if ever. I've never found myself wanting the feature and don't know the fascination either.

Imagine playing something like Bioshock or Dead Space or something that is meant to draw you in and suck you into it's world through atmosphere and it's design and then you're chatting to a mate on your headset about Facebook...or whatever. I only ever use my headset as it is when I'm online with someone else because I can have a chat and tell them what to do/have a laugh with them doing whatever it is, I just don't see how chatting while playing your own game and someone else doing it offers a whole lot (I find the best moments on headset are when you can both have a laugh at something you're doing on screen at that moment).

IMO it's far more pointless than anything that PSN+ offers and on PSN+ I would much rather a service that is unobtrusive to me than something that is cramming a specific feature down my throat or basically forcing me to get it by removing others.

Usually it's because you want to ask a mate playing a different game to you if he wants to come in and play multiplayer with you on the game you're playing.

"Yo mate, stop playing hannah montana and come play halo"

That said i've got a heap of mates on xbl that are irl mates too. If a heap are online at once i sometimes start a party chat to just shoot the shit while gaming.

It's handy, not essential, but handy

It's more of a multiplayer feature than a single player one. I just ignore party/chat invites if I'm playing a single player game where I care about the story.

Just clearing something up guys.
It's Playstation Plus, as in PS+. Not Playstation Network Plus. Although it probably should be PSN+ considering the only non-Playstation store service/content offered is the Auto-Download feature (which is a total b*tch by the way).

I have no idea how you can defend PSN+ HBK, it's a huge waste of money.

I mean sure you get a free game but it's stuck to your account and it's pointless if you don't re-subscribe.

Give us dedicated servers and I'd buy PSN+.

If you want to look at it like that then it is a sort of Game rental system. There's heaps of games on the PS store that I want to try but I don't have enough money to. So this way I get to try them and get other offers/content for the cost of a single retail game per year. Awesome value in my opinion.

Huh? It's "stuck to your account"? What the hell does that mean?

It might be pointless if you don't re-subscribe had you not finished a game (which in 3-12 months seems a bit strange to not have finished a downloadable title) and much like anything intangible when you subscribe to it, you tend to not be able to keep whatever it was you were subscribed to.

Dedicated servers? That is 100% completely up to the publishers and for exclusives games is about 90% of the time the way it's set up.

You're really not offering much of a reason why PS+/PSN+ whatever the **** it wants to be called, is such a waste of money. Especially when nobody is forcing you to buy it and it's just something that if PSN stuff generally takes your fancy it is something to jump on.

Well the game you get can only be played if you currently have subscribed. So you can't replay the game if you want a year later if your sub has run out.

Also if you get a game free from PS+ and buy the DLC that's on special, you'll have to buy the game when your sub runs out if you want to keep playing it and the DLC.

You haven't given a reason why it's so good. Wow, you get discounts whoopee. How about some actual features.

Also, stop being so biased.

Lol, this is your problem, I don't think it's "so good". You assume way too much.

The things you write as 'bad' really don't mean a lot. It's a subscription service. Much like Foxtel, much like QuickFlix or BigPond movies. You get a service and can use whatever is included in that and once the subscription has run out you can no longer use it. It's really not a hard concept to grasp. If you are so desperate to continue on again with whatever game it was, just sign up again or don't let the subscription run out.

I think it's a good feature for those who are regular buyers of PSN games (as I think caMo would benefit massively from and have told him so, despite him constantly saying to the contrary). I also think it's good for those who have a keen interest in PSN titles but just don't have the $100+ to spend on them all. This is a cheaper way to get those titles while under a years (or 3 month) banner in which you get well over value of what you're paying for that subscription, if someone doesn't realise what exactly a subscription service is then that's their fault for not playing enough of those titles in the allotted time. Plus there's incentives like beta's, which is nice.

PSN+ is about offering a different (and specifically catered) experience than making wholesale changes that will hurt other people's experience should they decide not to buy it. What would "dedicated servers" as a feature of PSN+ mean exactly? Would it mean those who pay for PSN+ get dedicated servers but those who don't get plebs servers? That is wrong and there should never be a system of robbing Peter to pay Paul employed in any subscription services.

Agree with this, helps when you're getting a party together. Drop in to chat and ask if your mate is coming over etc.

Not to mention you guys have group things. I wish PSN had that.

Yeah party chat is pretty good, you can switch between all three (game, chat, party).

Party chat includes cross game invites doesn't it?

Yes cross game invites you can hit up everyone in your party or on your friends list. Though cross game invites can work in, chat, party or game.

Now that would be a good idea for PS+.

Instead of discounts to games you may already have, give us actual features.

Party System.
Cross Game Chat.
Cross Game Invites.

And I thought that the Xbox Live service pays for dedicated servers?

The match making servers are hosted by MS, where on PSN the onus is on the developer to host these services. Example of MW2 on PSN when it first came out the 3rd party hosting provider for IW did not have the capacity to meet with the demand.

Is that really all? You're barely on the PS3 as it is and yet you want these barely influential features?

Sure it'd be nice to have the option of said features, but I would in no way want to be paying $70 a year for that. It also comes down to who exactly can use those features, if you have PS+ and someone doesn't can they join your party/chat or get an invite? If so then it cancels out the reason for more and more people to buy it as you could just get one in your clan of friends (preferably the one who is on the most) and just party up constantly that way.

*However it is not done that way for every single game. The majority of publishers/developers do like to host their own servers so they can keep maintenance and updates all on their side.
