My knee's pretty swollen and stiff, movement is pretty hard to come by and there's pain when I do move it but I can bear weight on it just fine. I was playing footy and seemed to jar it and was limping pretty heavy for 15 minutes before it basically went back to normal and then played another quarter and didn't even notice it. But then later that day it started swelling and getting pretty stiff, I'm thinking it's probably just a bit of internal bruising or something. Wouldn't be a chance of a grade 1 ligament or anything would it? Just looking for some reassurance

Re: Knee injury question-

You've torn the cartilege and will miss a couple of months. The knee will never be the same and you'll probably develop arthritis in 5-10 years.

Re: Knee injury question-

Hey guys pretty shattered just found out i have ruptured my acl... anybody have any advice on how to get through it, anybody else done the same thing?

Re: Knee injury question-

In both the above instances, id suggest you go straight to the doctor and get a referall to see a knee surgeon.
You'd have to get an MRI to decide on a course of action. The doctor will know what to do.
If youve got meniscus damage (cartiledge) then id suggest getting surgery ASAP.
In 2010, i injured my knee pretty badly.
Turned out id torn my meniscus and partially tore my ACL. The 2nd of which is a rare occurence.
Couldnt do much with the knee without pain killers, so i had the meniscus partially removed and my knee has been alot better since.
My knee will never be the same as pre-injury.
If youve torn your ACL, then you will need surgery.

Do the rehab properly, don't half ass it, don't put it off, don't miss sessions.

Trust me.

Not going to lie, its gonna suck mate, there's time's when you're going to hate the world but you'll get through it.

If you do the right thing by your knee, it will get better. You can't rush it though.

Re: Knee injury question-

got an appointment with cameron norsworthy for a knee reco. Has anybody ever heard of him? I know that he works with/under Julian Feller. he does the lars reco's but i dont think i want to do that. Is he well respected?

You seem to know what you're talking about. Since I posted this the swelling has gone down and I have full range of motion fine without any discomfort so that rules out meniscus right? However the weird thing with it at the moment is that if I tense or stretch my hammy too much in some cases, I can get a weird tightening sensation in my knee usually to the right side of it. I was thinking it might be a medial strain? The knee in terms of weight bearing and everything is fine.

I had a torn meniscus a year ago. The cartledge in the knee is basically an impact injury. If you get pain when running from the impact of your foot hitting the ground, jumping is very painful if you have a torn meniscus and also kicking a ball because the impact just goes through your whole leg and you do it 3-4 times and you will be limping for the next hour or two. Not to mention if you do some serious running you will struggle to get into a car, walk upstairs the rest of that day plus the next day or two.

Yeah it's definitely not meniscus, I think it was just a strain ligament or something with some serious swelling

That said, if you stretch your ligaments, they never go back to how they were before, hence your knee is increasingly unstable and you risk serious injury to your knee. Be careful. Depending on what surgeon you go to, they'll recommend different things. Overseas, doctors will tell you to get a reconstruction, but in Australia they're probably just as likely to tell you to tape it up. If it gives you big problems further down the track, you might have to get something done about it.

To the other guy who is having the reco, as the last poster said, all you can do is knuckle down and do your rehab. The stricter you are with your rehab program, the better your results will be, and vice versa, if you are lazy, you'll have a lot more problems later on. Also, I recommend that you don't rush back. Lots of people go back too soon and end up damaging their knee again, or damaging their other knee because of weight bearing issues. Take your time, do lots of rehab and stay positive.

Ok, this one is a beauty.

Yesterday was lifting a relatively heavy table (>100kgs) and needed to get under it to lift. Straight back, lift with the legs, I've never had any trouble with this sort of thing. Almost straight away got very minor knee pain which has persisted, but worsened.

It's hurting now without moving, but hurts when I squat past even a 1/4 squat, worsening just before I hit parallel (bodyweight obviously).

Walking stairs this morning was difficult, but I can actually jog around if I try (e.g. I could play the last quarter of the granny :P).

If it's anything I'm assuming it's PCL, not anything worse, but I really have no idea. I know I can't know much about this without getting a scan or seeing someone, I was more after a rough indication of the symptoms/causes of different ligament tears/injuries to at least rule out what it won't be (for peace of mind).

So anyone who takes a minute to help is awesome :P

Thanks guys

Hey guys so just had my acl reco on Monday and just recovering at the moment. Any help or advice as to reduce the swelling and getting off crutches. Basically just been putting a towel under my ankle and pushing my knee down. And lots of icing. Anything else or just RICER basically?

It's not 'sorry to hear', it's good to hear! Surgery is out of the way and you're on the road to recovery! Do as your surgeon said, nothing more, nothing less. You'll regret it later if you push the envelope and don't go through recovery properly.

Heads up that there will be days during recovery you'll hate your knee, the world and anyone who wants to throw you advice. Everyone with long term injury has their moments.

Get back walking as soon as possible. It hurts and you'll feel like a ******, but as soon as the doctor gives you the green light, throw away the crutches.

Before 8 month i had a accident of motorcycle on that case i lost my one lag and i think it is my keen injury for my whole life.

Struggling to decypher this, however I believe you had a motorcycle accident and lost your leg. If this is the case, as a fellow motorcycle rider, I feel for you.

Hey guys if you know you have a torn meniscus but you play footy anyway what will anything happen? I'm thinking more long term, i know its going to hurt.
