A LOT has changed since Essendon beat Carlton back in round three, but Bombers coach Matthew Knights is quietly confident going into Sunday's re-match at the MCG.

In-form forward Brendan Fevola has been a key figure in pre-match planning, but Knights says his side will need to do a lot more than keep the Coleman medallist quiet to come away with a win.

"We can't focus on Fevola because it will leave others open but he is a significant player. He's a big part of the way we're planning but they've got a midfield that is providing great inside 50 work.

"What they are getting is a really even contribution at the moment from a lot of players and that's really significant for them."

Knights flagged the return of Andrew Lovett after the speedy wingman missed last week's win over West Coast with a virus.

Will Ryder be able to go with Fev?? I think Fev would have him covered with speed and size or am I off the mark there? I don't really think the bombers have a good matchup for him.

They'll be triple-teaming Fev this weekend. We're going to need someone to stand up at CHF.

I think Cloke or Kreuzer to CHF or rotate the two through the ruck and CHF and give the bummers a real problem with it all :)

They can triple team Fev all they like... he just needs an inch to rip them a new one.

gibbs should get stanton. cant hack a tag and he should allow gibbs to play his own game more than he has of late

I can't see much of a reason to tag many of their players. I would say Lovett is the only one. Players like Mcveigh and Stanton will probably get sent to tag some of ours. If our midfield doesn't win this one we can say goodbye to eighth spot. Seriously it's Essendon.

This game starts in the ruck. If our 3 ruckman can over run their 1.5 we should then win the mid battle overall. I don't think Fev kicking 8 would be ideal for this 1, id guess someone would be kicking their share down the other end if it's that kind of game again.

you guys obviously havent watched any essendon games this year. knights never has loose men in defence. no matter what it will be a one on one contest. fletcher or ryder vs fev..

look at the hawthorn match for example. clarkson moved all his forwards out of the forward 50, and left franklin and ryder alone, the only 2 players within 60 metres of the goal..

no matter what knights wont play a few players on fev. in his veiw its a learning experience for the players.

The only thing they will take from sunday's game if they play one on one is the image of the navy blue guernsey with the big 25 on it gettin on the end of some crisp passes. Ryder is no way near good enough to compete with fev one on one.

completely agree but in todays game pretty much no defender is capable of stopping a good forward one on one..

forwards like brown, buddy, fevola, pavlich cannot be left with no assistance from other defenders.. the one thing that really annoys me about knights... with the new rules like chopping the arms and pushing in the back defenders cannot compete against the premier forwards without assistance..

could be the difference between the two sides, ratten would be prepared to put men back if need be whereas knights wont

You been watching the blues ?

You leave Fev on his own add you'll still be adding up the goals come September.

you have it spot on

we've never double teamed fev in the past either, so why would we start now?
the franklin comparison is perfect, clarkson gave him the 50, and we let them do it, ryder won one contest between them all night, yet we never (not once) dropped a man back to help out
Fev is so dam good on the lead..it could get ugly
