Can any of the West Coast fans tell me what's up with this guy? At the start of the year I heard a few saying he would be in line to get a RS nomination, but he's barely played at all.

Injury? Out of form?

What would the Eagles want for him? Suns are short on inside mids. Wouldn't mind having a look at him, so long as he's not continually breaking down.

WAFL form has been solid to good but has been unable to step up to AFL tempo so far. Can find the footy and has a penetrating kick although not necessarily accurate. Not fast and looks borderline slow at times. Not sure he would be willing to move to the Gold Coast but wouldn't be a bad pickup for you guys because he is a big unit for a midfielder.

Inside mid is not an easy spot in our team to break into (Kerr, Priddis, Shuey, S.Selwood are our clearance mids), and Subiaco is tough on those players without great endurance. He's playing quite well in the WAFL.

Suspect he might get traded over summer, which is a shame.

Yeah i hope he stays but can see him wanting out. I'd be wanting something similar to the pick we used for him which was 21 I think? Just hasnt been able tog et a good run at it. Not sure he's played 2 full AFL games in a row. Hard to adjust tot he tempo of AFL footy when you're only getting the 1 game.

The problem is, the players he's going to replace, Kerr, Shuey, Scott Selwood and Priddis have missed only a small amount of games.

Seriously though I could see him going to the Saints if we give West Coast a fair offer, he'd join a midfield brigade of the same age in a push for the future in his home state. It'd have to tempt him on a personal level, and we love our cult figures at St Kilda and with a name like Koby it'd be fantastic!

What would you offer up (in theoretical land)? What picks do the saints have? The eagles (if we finished 5th) would have our picks 4 spots after yours.

Edit: I just had a look and think the saints had pick 34 (I may be off 1-2 places). Perhaps this could be a starting point for a reasonable trade to the saints:

Koby Stevens and pick 57 for pick 34 and pick 53.

or another hypothetical:

Koby Stevens and pick 17 and pick 38 and pick 57 for pick 12 and pick 34 and pick 53.

And I know hypotheticals are often pointless, but I do think it's interesting getting other supporters' valuations of eagles players who are rumoured to be leaving.

Suns would be able to offer some fringe players. Alik Magin is a small crumbing forward.

Sam Iles is a mature age candidate for the midfield/HB flank. I have no idea why since he averages 20+ touches a game, but we seem to be getting rid of him.

I think the last one is most appropriate but maybe don't bother with pick 57 and 53 because at that stage it becomes very hit and miss. a 5 pick downgrade for a potentially very good player is fine by me considering that picks don't always net you a great player... *coughkosicough*

Thanks for the response. Others may have views on the second trade. Maybe not value for WC, but couldn't think of many other options with the picks both teams have.

1) Saints arent likely to offer up #12 to get their hands on Stevens even if #17 is included.
2) Your initial post was about right- Stevens for mid/high pick 30's - so in this case for #34. Why confuse it by including 2nd and 3rd round picks ?

Interesting that you agree that #34 sounds about right.

I suppose the round 3 pick swap is fairly pointless. But these sort of swaps are always an option if someone wants a slightly better deal.

With both Stevens and Smith likely to depart, WC are likely to have 4 picks available to them before pick 40/45. Unless they are able to combine some of these picks (or use them in a trade for a player), then they are unlikely to utilize their 3rd rounder on anything more than a rookie promo, making any pick upgrade pointless.

Good point.

How do you value Smith? Similar range?
