who are we talking about here?
Stevens has suspect disposal. Reason why we overlooked him. Maybe it has improved. Does he still do that bizarre two handed balldrop? Looks like Auskick
Stuart Maxfield had one of the worst kicking styles, but he still managed to have a good career.

I don't think he'll ever be an elite mid or anything, but if he's delisted, I'd be shocked if a club didn't try to pick him up.

Most of Stevens kicking issues where OP. Doesn't have a great ball drop (not two handed) but if he's hitting targets then it's less of an issue.

Pretty sure Richmond overlooked Stevens for the same reason they overlooked Fyfe and Bastinac, needs. Richmond went after KPP's in the second round.

If Port got an end of 1st round PP

Would that + an exchange of 3rd rounders be enough?

Trying to get a feel for value here.

Stevens hasnt looked up to it, especially this year, he was horrible in his AFL appearances.

I dont think he's suited to a deck like Subi, he does his best work in tight, his kicking is average, very blunt.

He's never going to be a greyhound but he'll shuffle from contest to contest.

Id be suprised if we got something that high.

Stevens went at 23 in a weaker draft and a Port PP would be pick 24, if you got a PP you probably try to pass us your second rounder and retain the better pick, ala the Ebert trade.

Koby's mid season form in the WAFL was huge. Hard to say he's not been up to it when he's played 3 games as the sub and one game agaist GWS.

Alright cheers, yeah was watching his pre season form in the WAFL and was impressed

No, but it puts him into the Kyle Reimers or Henry Slattery basket, purely on exposed form.
Dominating in state league does not necessarily mean they can make the step up (or vice versa, FWIW)

We were very keen on Stevens... But as somebody already alluded too, we went for need for our second pick, if Stevens was still available with our following pick we would've snapped him up

I haven't seen much of him since he was drafted, but he was a pretty good kick before he got OP. Would be pretty scary to have him and Martin running around together in a few years.

You do realise that this is a strong draft and runs pretty deep, Stevens has been around for 3 years and has done ??
I believe he was pick 26 and after 3 years of nothing wouldnt give up a 2nd rounder for him

picks 40-50/55 would be about where he is atm

He'll surely be delisted if West Coast get silly and hold out for something decent. His suitor may just wait for that, if he has a preference

I could imagine a pick 50 for Stevens and pick 60 sort of trade
I suppose it only takes one club to like him a lot

WCE drafted Stevens with OP and as Stevens has said has taken him 18 months to get over the OP , so with three years AFL preparation done , he should be a ready made player for a VIC based team and with reportedly six Melbourne clubs interested I reckon we will get something okay for Stevens . It is a shame he hasn't made our team but they are the circumstances , still hope he stays there is something likeable about Stevens and his attack on the ball is so strong I would hope he stays at WCE rather then having to play against such a Kamakazee footballer .

FYI it's amazing what 5 seconds on google can do. He was drafted at pick 22.

And hardly 3 years of nothing, if it was 3 years of nothing I would be wanting him to leave / be delisted. The kid has massive potential. I would love him to stay but unfortunately can't see it happening. :(

I'd put up our second rounder (mid 30's)

If Russell gets picked up somewhere and we recieve a mid 2nd rounder (what I roughly value him at, hard to know with AFL formula) then that seems a good price.

David Ellard might want to go back home, role player, hard at it, can ping a goal or 3, undersized but won't die wondering. Could work his way into a deal

Note that the AFL has come at and said that the compo for FA won't be as high as the GWS/GC compo

I think any interest we might have had would have cooled after Bell's promising start. Made a big impact in his half dozen games, big bodied, strong, and presumably a hell of a lot more mobile than Stevens. Add in Brock looking like he is back in town I'd much rather take a speculative pick in the 30's.

Ellard for Stevens would make sense if both wanted to return home, though I am not sure either would be getting more opportunity.

I appreciate that. As has been stated many times before, Russell was 2nd in our BnF in 2010 (behind the Brownlow medallist), and played some very good football on either side of that year (2011 started well before fouled by injury).

I feel as though he is leaving because we are making cap space for a big play (guess who) and will be on a reasonable senior wage wherever he goes especially considering the amount of rumoured interest swirling around (Geelong, Richmond, Port Adelaide etc.). He is certainly not delist material and would be reatined wihtout question if he didn't find a new home to his preference and was happy to take a pay cut.

This post is just wrong.

Unfortunately Jonts it very obvious few people who post here have much idea of trading/drafting.

Stevens was a highly rated youngster who was initially tipped (early 2009) to go top 5. Unfortunately OP midway through the 2009 season saw him struggle and further exposed his lack of pace, which was really his only knock. His kicking prior to 2009 was never seriously questioned, but he changed his action slightly during 2009 to counteract OP which to the informed made perfect sense.
His first 2 years at WC were impacted by OP and the residual affects on running gait, fitness and kicking action. Only from late 2011 has he really got back to full fitness which unfortuantely coincided with the resurgance of WC's midfield and in particular the availability of both Kerr and Priddis who play a role similar to Stevens.
Clubs know games revolve around winning contested ball, which increases the value of players like Stevens. Whilst clubs will only be able to offer the pick(s) they have available , talk of picks 40+ as being equitable for Stevens really displays ignorance on behalf of the poster regarding the knowledge of how footy is played today.
