I think he had to that was pretty much the first football he ever played at anything that would be considered a competitive level.

People forget the derision that was heaped on Kouta in his first few years at Carlton because they prefer to remember the good times but he played some absolute stinkers of games early on. Similar to Bower last year.

He played from quite a young age, school footy (captain) and also for lalor. When it came to under 19's he had to be pushed a bit as he was happy playing for lalor with mates. and there was also the athletics thing so he had to make a decision there.

another thing i think goes unmention is the media and fans didn't realise the impact kouta's father passing had on him, hence his poor 97. that really shock him around.
